Is this tremolo or some other thing?

Within The Ruins' new album is full of these tremolo-y parts, at least I think it's tremolo. Can someone tell me the effect that's spread throughout the song, such as at 0:51 and 1:23? I think it's crazy cool sounding and want to know how to do it to some extent.

It's definitely an agressive tremolo or vibrato effect, whether digital or a pedal I'm not sure.

Electro-Harmonix makes a Stereo Pulsar Vibrato pedal that I've listened to demos that gets it fairly close. Not sure about other vibrato pedals, as I'm not too well-versed in those.

He's actually said in a guitar world column, he just edits those bits manually in his DAW, and then has his AxeFX, which is midi controlled by a laptop, do those bits live.

But essentially yes it's tremolo.
