FYI: If you swap to a Schaller locking tremolo there is almost no gap.
I did do that swap on my 94 Jackson Professional XL, I almost went with that on this one as well but wanted to try an OFR,a nd finding a chrome Schaller at the time I did this was proving to be problematic. the black ones are easy to find

seeing the new EVH Star model with the new headstock, I thought hey'd never release a banana headstock...so i found a desolation charvel for cheap last month (stars are a PITA to find... it's either those , or USA models or Gus G model, not a lot in between) and modded it a bit, schaller trem, some gold parts....), the seller finally changed his mind and voila !

Good looking star! You are right they are very tough to find. The desolation is a good series for the money.
