im just now getting into buckethead (yes, i know...). as long as ive been playing i should already be a fan, but i guess ive not been really interested in instrumentals or experimental stuff in the past. seen a few vids of his lately and really digging some of it.

he has so many albums (hundreds) and seems so many styles too...where do i start?

what are your favorite 5 or 10 albums and why?

songs i should check out?

post up vid too...

This is just the list I came up with off the top of my head. I think it is a good starting point.
Cuckoo Clocks of Hell(one of my favorite of his heavier albums)
Electric Tears
The Elephant Man's Alarm Clock
Population Override
Bucketheadland 2
Enter the Chicken
Decoding the Tomb of Bansheebot
Captain Eo's Voyage
Any of the Thanatopsis albums
Deli Creeps- Dawn of the Deli Creeps

1. Cuckoo Clocks From Hell
2. Enter The Chicken (it's a collaboration album with guest artists but still great)
3. Bucketheadland

That's pretty much all I've heard from him, to be honest. Sometimes I put on a random album that he has on Spotify and judging by that I'd honestly say that 95% of his stuff is not worth listening. He's like a guy who thinks every riff he comes up with needs to be turned into a song and recorded.

This is my favorite song by him (off the Enter The Chicken album) which also includes my all-time favorite guitar solo:

My second favorite song by him (off the Cuckoo Clocks From Hell). I was 12yo when I first heard it and it creeped the shit out of me but I couldn't stop listening to it.

I really only tend to listen to Population Override if I throw on anything from him, just rock solid from start to finish.

I got Giant Robot (found it in a used bin) and it was so bad and the playing/tone was so mundane that I was completely turned off to him for years. A few years later I heard Cuckoo Clocks of Hell and couldn't believe it was the same guy, that's a pretty awesome album. I think I remember hearing/liking Population Override many years ago, also. A couple weeks ago someone made me listen to Colma, and that was pretty good, too. I'm now in the awkward position of thinking about listening to more of him, and I have the Apple Music subscription so I have access to about 293587 songs of his. It's so overwhelming I almost don't want to!

Bucketheadland sounds like the generally most-mentioned one in this thread besides the two I liked?

I like that album he did with Les Claypool

Colonel les Claypool and his Bucket of Burnie Brains. What a weird/awesome show. I didn't even know there was an album.

this sounds quite interesting...

didn't care for primus to begin with then my wife came home with the 'animals should not try to act like people' cd/dvd...became a fan

Hmmm.... All the recommendations are older albums (not saying they aren't great albums). From the Pikes my favourite is maybe Pike 51: Claymation Courtyard. Pike 65 is another popular one. One of my favourite Buckethead ballads is maybe Way Back When (on Pike 160). On the later Pikes there is some really interesting playing. He really pushes shredding to the limit somewhere around 200 and afterwards, but I can't name any now, just go listen, they are probably all on youtube.

I found it very hard to keep up win the pines, and they took on an almost stream of consciousness vibe, glad someone’s been able to pull some specifics out of them!

Oh yeah Funnel Weaver, that’s a wicked album! I used to put it on whenever I got disheartened that there were no riffs left in the guitar.
