You say I am not up in arms about others doing it. My stance on copying designs is pretty well documented on this forum and elsewhere.
Can confirm; I have caught smoke from Hollowway on my defense for Blackmachine clones in the past

I think this post did a good job of articulating why this release still rubbed me the wrong way, though. It's not about 'hey we like this design' or 'hey we think EVH deserves a shoutout,' it feels a lot more like 'hey we want to make some coin real quick.' At least they'll be solid guitars. Better than some Aliexpress knock-off special diluting the image.

A Tribute? To what? Capitalism? A 'tribute' as in $ to line Jeff's pockets? Not only are Kiesel guitars soulless, they're classless.

Meh, never liked the EVH design anyway. It's ugly. Too many guitarists in the 80s liked tacky designs. Probably only popular because of Eddie.

Sorry, I hope I wasn't overly caffeinated in any criticism I levied! Inspiration and copying are definitely on a continuum, and I never know where I fall, lol.

"It was not a trademark infringement, it was just a tribute". Not sure if that holds up, but I'm only invested enough in this debate to make a dumb joke and then walk away.

Warhol is the one who did Marilyn Monroe and the Campbell's cans. I also get my worthless artists mixed up, don't sweat it.

Van Kiesel - For Unlawful Copyright Violations
Honestly call it bad taste and don't buy but the idea that you can copyright every little thing just seems wrong to me.
Just think about how it only helps billion dollar companies but a small business will never be able to protect anything against a giant.
It just distorts the market in favor of those already with too much power.
Fuck copyright.

On the flip side, a large company could trounce a small company who invovates simply due to scale.

Which is why it's more common for large companies to buy out or license from smaller ones.

It's just copyright law in this country is stupid, thanks mostly to lobbying from Disney, and copyrights don't sunset like they reasonably should so there are forever wars of litigation where obviously the big company can weather much better.
