ok, so on my epiphone les paul, I am thinking about tuning down to Eb or maybe D standard, should I change gauge of strings? or can i just tune it down?

Just tune down at first. See how it feels. If you like it it's all good. If not play with strings until you find a feel you like. Also you might want to check your intonation after you tune down.

E(b)= no prob on 9-46 or 9- 42 sets
For D I'd reccomend 11-48 or 10-52 unless you like emm a little loose ( i personally dont like em loose I like em tight).
