That sounded way out of tune.

Not to rip on Dragonforce but I still believe they are extremely overrated.

The guys in shadows fall are pretty well balanced that way. Jon Donais can't really rythm to well, but does some great legato-filled solos. Matt Bachand has some killer rhythm chops, but refuses to solo.

I heard Dragonforce is always drunk on stage and sloppy as hell.. Kinda depressing. Oh well, that video making fun of them makes their band worth while...

I am not saying they are the best out there but I really enjoy listening to some of their songs sometimes and the technical skill of Herman and the other guitarist is pretty amazing imho.

if Marty had problems playing Polands solos, What does that say about every other megadeth lead guitarist playing Marty's solos? none of them come even, its almost pitiful hearing Tornado of souls from anyone but Marty.
Dude, you need to quit classifying someone he is by "How hard the shit he can play is". It doesnt get you anywhere, but makes it look life you've even got a WORSE case of hero worship.

Whatever guys, the comment about slayer was because everyone thinks their so great at rhythm, I know their shit compared to if u wanna say "tech metal". But we're talking how weak in Rhythm someone is, lets define rhythm then. If cacophony and megadeth and slayer is weak at rhythm, Then there goes 80% of metal being weak at rhythm also.

There you go making stupid blanket statements about something you don't know about again. You got your point shot down and you're upset about it. I understand.
Look, if you're looking to diss on metal for being oversimplified and an 'easily conquerable' genre, try This and get back to me.

I actually like some of their studio work because Im into cheesy 80's hair bands and old video game music like Herman, but thats it lol. I do like the fact that Herman owns an S7420 7 string though:agreed::yesway:

To me, Marty Friedman and George Lynch are great soloists but weak rythym players. Jeff Loomis from Nevermore comes up with some great riffs but his leads don't do a thing for me. What do you think?

Gotta disagree on Lynch - the riff from "Love From The Mamma Head" or whatever that track is called, second off Sacred Groove, fuckin' owns.

Does this make anyone else giggle slightly? Went to Japan because the US was stuck in th 80's? Have you heard any late 90's Jpop?

Come on, Toshiro, save your breath. I've given up expecting Nick Cormier to be objective whereever Friedman is involved.

I've never understood why people think Lynch's rhythm work is weak. It's not insanely fast or full of complex harmony, but it always sits well in an arrangement, and the man knows a thing or two about penning a catchy riff.

What about the 'old school' rhythm specialists like Pete Townsend, Malcolm Young, and Paul Stanley? I know Pete and Paul both have some recorded solos in their back catalogues, but their lead work is never scintilating.

BB King is a famous example of someone who only solos and never plays rhythm...

Pretty self-explanatory: Which players do you think are great at rythym but horrible at lead, and vice versa? Not necessarily technically speaking, but more quality-wise.

Listen to Matricide by nevermore and then look me in my eyes and say that Jeff cant solo again. That is my favorite solo ever, its so perfectly executed! :metal: :shred:

Tomorrow turned into yesterday - Nevermore. I think it is one of Jeff's more melodic solos. Check that sucker out.

I don't think anyone would deny that the man has chops up to the eyeballs, but Jeff Loomis has the kind of lead style that's never going to appeal to everyone (personally I love it, but I can totally understand why some people don't).

Yeah, tomorrow turned is so fucking awesome. It reminds me of Dreaming neon black in the chorus just because warrel gets such power in his voice during it. The solo is brilliant too! SO POWER! (quoting a japanese guy from the Live at budokan DVD by DT.)

As far as Lynch goes, his rythym playing isn't horrible by any means, but unlike his lead work which is instantly recognisable, his rythym stuff is pretty typical of the scene at that time. It gets the job done, but I wouldn't put it alongside any of his leads.

I've listened to Loomis grow and develop as a lead player and he's just run in a direction that I'm not a huge fan of. I mean, I've seen Intense Rock Guitar too, so I kinda know where he's coming from, heh. He has his moments, generally in the slower ballad-y songs, and he has some awesome lead parts, but when he goes into a hyperspeed solo I kinda lose interest.
