If you want to have some real fun, try the 4-cable method and put effects before and after the head's preamp

Guitar into the POD
POD Effects out --> instrument in of the head
Effects send of the head --> POD effect return
POD Output --> effect return of the head

That's my setup actually, POD HD500X with Blackstar 5
