A Youtube video will embed automatically even on the quick reply. It seems to me that most of the embed errors occur when either (a) editing a post and adding the video later, or (b) not pasting in the URL of the video itself (YouTube URL's that have the "&Feature=related" type of tags added on to the end).
But really, it's simple to use the tags if ever a YouTube embed fails.
All you do is type the tags
