Can anyone give a prog metal band that writes really long songs?

I already know (and love)

Dream Theater
Opeth
IQ
Symphony X

Even though they aren't metal I also like:

King Crimson
Yes
Old Genesis
Poccul Harrum

I'm really looking for something in an 'old Symphony X' vein, but any prog metal would be fine.

Really soothing post-hardcore stuff : Explosions in the Sky and Russian Circles are both killer

When I read the title, I thought "Long Song" was the name of a Chinese band :)

If by long you mean have at least 1 album with at least 1 10+ min song, then some I could think of are..

Circus Maximus
Adagio
Ayreon

Everything I have ever heard them do is about as far away from prog as you can get...and yeah, I have heard songs off the new album..when they start doing long winded keyboard and guitar solo's let me know :)

Thanks for the stuff. Any 20 min+ songs? You guys could recommend.

And yes i have heard Mastodons new album. It's quite good, not prog, but good nonetheless.

I didn't know that long solos is what makes a band progressive :s

I thought it was the arrangements, the unpredictability and the progression of ideas beyond the riff1 then riff2 mentality.

This dude gets it! Prog is also about being mature, different, and epic in nature. Prog is very ambitious both musically and lyrically. It's not as cheesy as power metal even though a lot of the themes are similar

Textures has quite a few long songs ranging from 8 to 15 or so minutes.

They have one song of 8 minutes, Touching The Absolute. Great song..
And the song Polars is over 18 minutes.. And yeah there's a 'song', more a soundscape I would say.. of over 14 minutes.

There are a couple long Porcupine Tree songs.. You should check out The Sky Moves Sideways.. 35 minutes, and it's good! On their record Voyage 34 you'll find four long ambient tracks.

And the ambient band Bossk have released 4 freaking awesome songs, they're long too

Isn't Opeth kinda progressive? I know they write real long songs.

Whoops, just noticed you already mentioned them
