So what started out as my main guitar that I bought brand new back in '07 that I put aside once I got my RG550 has once again become my main, with looks and playability better than ever!

Short story behind this guitar:

A good 10 years ago when I was in school tearing it up on the sax I was "enlightened" by a family friend who visited one day to introduce me to electric guitar. He played an LTD MH-201 (See-through Purple QM) through some old peavey half-stack. It was probably the amazing thing I had ever seen (at the time).

Naturally I decided I needed to get into guitar. After a few years of playing on a First Act ME-301 I figured enough was enough and that I needed to upgrade! I had grown to like the way the LTD felt and played, but I wanted something better. I settled with the LTD MH-400 (now discontinued). My only issue was that there weren't any ESP/LTD distributers nearby. So I decided to join my father who happens to be a truck driver along for one of his routine trips to Calgary in order to get a chance to hopefully demo one.

Made the trip in about 3 days and was able to try one out. I was blown away pretty much as soon as I came into contact with it.

After coming back I rushed to get my first job as a dishwasher at some crappy family restaurant so that I could start saving. Eventually ended up buying one keeping in mind that I would one day replace the trem system.

I know that guitars are just "tools" to get the job done, however I do feel quite sentimental over this one. Helped me get through some pretty rough times and even withstood being thrown out the door by my mom (foreign parents :S). Neck is still straight and the thing still looks pretty mint!

After picking up my RG550 this past summer (also an amazing guitar) I was tempted to sell the LTD to fund some other equipment. On the verge of selling I decided against it and purchased myself an original Floyd Rose system for it along with a few other cosmetic upgrades :).

I'll just let the photos do the talking ;) :

She really is a thing of beauty! Still needs some intonation work but I figured I would get these up here :).

PS if anyone has any questions about installation please feel free to give me a shout.

Cheers!

I would have prefered angles pickup rings myself too, but aside of that, its a pure win. Thinking about doing the same for my 006

Those pickup rings were a pain. Had to take about a half mm off each side in order for the EMGs to fit. The old ones were 1/16" thickness (neck) and 3/16" (bridge). I ordered all of these parts from Warmoth and those were all they had for gold. I'll keep my eyes peeled though. I had a blast working on it man! Be sure to take pics! :)

Thanks for the suggestion btw!

Aren't the gold pickup rings supposed to go on top of the existing ones? Looks good, though. Kinda interested in hearing the story about it being thrown out the door now too lol.

Existing ones were black plastic, so I guess I would would just have to get a taller gold ring. I can definitely say that raising/lowering the pickups seems to be much easier now (it seemed to be catching somewhere before).

Please help me !!

Hey there and sorry for the delayed response. I set a soft piece of wood in the recessed part where the foam lining is (about 2 cm thick) and used the claw of a hammer to slowly pry them out using the wood as a fulcrum for the hammer so I wouldn't wreck my finish. Hope this helps :yesway:

I actually prefer the flat low-profie pickup rings. Lots of awesome here!

I completely forgot to mention the cost of this project. It came to around $300.00 incl. shipping to Ontario, Canada plus brokerage. Ordered it from the guys at

Warmoth Custom Guitar Parts - Custom bass and guitar bodies and necks

Based out of Washington state they are great to work with and have solid customer service with the lowest prices I've come across.

I would imagine it would probably come to slightly more due the the 7-string floyd and the extra tuner. I think it would be a great fit for the RG7420 you've got there! Keep me posted if you decide to take it on. The only possibly upgrade I can think of now would be to toss a floyd-upgrade big block. Anyone have any personal experience with these?

One more thing I noticed is how well the OFR fits that licensed bridge route. From the pics you wouldn't even be able to tell it isn't original.

Hey, nice project!

Funny thing is, I have done the same a few months ago with my blue M400. However, I went quite a different way :D
I used all Schaller stuff, and a Dimarzio Crunchlab/PAF Pro. In addition, the PUs can now be splitted.

Very Nice bro! Looks wicked. How are you liking that p/u combo in the mahogany?
