So I got curious and was going to browse Matrix stuff, but the site is deemed unsafe by Google Chrome due to the security certificate etc not being updated in 259 days. I checked the site and saw the company's been in "hibernation" since early 2023 due to supply restraints and the inability to redesign their equipment with different components.

Has there been any update regarding their status? The owner Andy is still offering to repair their stuff, but otherwise it seems like the actual production side of the company is done? Would be a shame to see them close shop in that regard. The GT power amps always seemed like killer pieces of gear.

This is the first I've heard about it. Shame to see since they make such quality gear :( I briefly owned a GT1000FX that felt really robust and sounded killer

I had the same question back when I was looking for a power amp for my Axe II. Kind of crazy considering how well received their products were/are.

The real question is always if anyone actually bought them?

I've seen one Matrix power amp in the wild.

I can’t remember what company but I seem to remember one of the bigger names in IR’s was using a Matrix power amp for making them a few years back. Seems like that avenue would’ve helped business as that specific part of the industry has only expanded.

I remember folks at the Fractal forum answering this / discussing this, but I forgot what the answer was. I did a quick search and couldn't tell. I think several people there know.

I'm not sure how they handled distribution outside of the EU, but I own one and I know another player who lives just across the border who uses one as well. I have seen a few at Euroblast over the years. But nothing compared to say, 5150s or the like.

It would be a shame if they have gone bust. The customer service was great and so are the products.

Yeah, they were like the number one amp that AxeFx guys were using for awhile that wasn't a VHT/Fryette, but then seemed to wane in popularity.

But more importantly, they never really came out with anything else, so once you bought it you kept it and just used the newest modeler.

So what is the go-to solid state power amp these days?

I see the SD Powerstage stuff everywhere, so probably that. Especially since everyone seems to have moved to floor modelers.

The Powerstage 700 would be cool if they redesigned it to be proper 1U rack spacing instead of the deformed 1.5u space.

But yeah Iv'e seen it spread out between Duncan, Quilter, even Harley Benton in the EU.

It definitely doesn't appear to have been designed with being rack mounted in mind at first. The input is on the front for some bizarre reason, and the dimensions just don't make a whole lot of sense for that purpose. I remember reading about a Duncan rep/guy's response to the design criticisms (maybe on here? Can't remember where) and he said that if it was good enough for Mark Holcomb, it was good enough for you. (lol) Like, what a dunk...?

Matrix had great customer service. I also bought from them a 1600FX after seeing the Metallica rig rundown. I remember they also used to sell these lightweight 2x12 cabinets with neo magnet speakers. Cabs were sprayed with that rugged paint thing that Vader used in their cabs.

I still have the 1600. Killer piece of gear. Can power 4 4x12s no problem.

Yeah it was pretty obvious the rackmountability (???) was an afterthought/last minute addition. Also have they considered the fact that Mark maybe likes the thing in spite of the weird-ass form factor and would *also* like a 1U unit? lol

Yeah, I think the PowerStage stuff seems the most common now.
