Mesa Boogie have an article on their Zendesk site that seems to indicate their serial numbers don't have the date encoded in them in any way and they're just sequential. They also appear to have different series for each product with different prefixes so like the first 50/50 was FF001 and the first Mark IV was IV-001. It gets more confusing though because some products appear to have the same prefix. For example the first Strategy 400 was S-001 and the first Strategy 295 was also S-001.

So what I'm trying to figure out is about their cabinets. I haven't found any info on this. If different cabinet models serial numbers start with C, are those part of the same sequence or different sequences? Like if a Recto 2x12 has serial C-12345 and a Recto 4x12 has serial C-12346, are these part of the same sequence and thus made at the same time or are these two completely different sequences?

Thanks

I've wondered this for a while too, and it would make buying cabs slightly less mysterious. If anyone feels comfortable posting part/all of their serial numbers and year here, that'd be cool.

I can't edit the initial post now, but I heard back from Kris at Mesa only a few hours after submitting my inquiry :yesway:

The first cabinet has no exact ship date available, but would have been sometime in the fall/winter of 1999. Second cabinet shipped June 24 of 2003 and the third cabinet shipped May 25 of 2008.

Damn, nice collection. I've always heard that those late 90's/early 00's Mesa V30 cabs are incredible.

Just wanted to add to this. Although it's old it's the first thing that pops up on Google when searching. I think it's clear to say Mesa went backwards in their cab dating.

I just ordered one used and inquired with Mesa.

C34347 was made on 10/02/2000.

Seems like generally c2 is newer than c3 and c3 is newer than c4. Surely regarding the OS 4x12.

But maybe a little different when it comes to the Traditional cab based off the other comments?

At least Mesa can email and verify, assuming they're accurate.
