I see tons of discussion about all things Meshuggah: Guitars, guitar tone, drumming, song writing, etc... but something I don't see discussed often if at all is the lyrics of Meshuggah.

I find almost all of it fascinating. I can't quite point out what it is but their is something abstract about them, while still always remaining poetic in a way.

For instance probably my favorite, "I". The first few lines have been signature since day 1 here. From what I get from the song it's about some kind of black hole with a consciousness thinking describing it's existance to itself. You can't find that kind of thing outside Meshuggah.

Discuss Meshuggah Lyrics.

The scattered jigsaw of my redemption laid out before my eyes
Each piece as amorphous as the other - Each piece in its lack of shape a lie

From Catch-33

I have no idea what it means, but it sounds cool. They really have weird, out there lyrics. Like you said, it's not what people talk about much, but the lyrics are really interesting :yesway:

They indeed have kick-ass lyrics:

Mind's Mirrors

The feeding frenzy of my starving soul, gnawing voraciously at the bones,
the exo-skeletal patchwork protecting my own reflection within;
The twin-and-same engaged in the mirrored act of chewing away
at the shell of my attacking self. The paradox unseen

Treacherous this deceit to make no choice matter
To have and yet lose yourself, until finally all reasons why are forgotten
To live through ones own shadow. Mute and blinded, is to really see
Eclipse the golden mirror and the reflection is set free

Yeah Meshuggah writes awesome lyrics. My favourites are from the Nothing album, Rational Gaze and Stengah. Fits so extremely well with the music.

I've been listening to Meshuggah for a few years now and I've never taken much notice of their lyrics before. But those are pretty awesome. :yesway:

the context of parallel truth
devoid of fragmentation
our light induced
image of truth filtered blank of it's substance
as our eyes won't adhere to intuitive lines...

To revise for my mock exams, I actually analyzed Meshuggah lyrics haha. I did Stengah, Rational Gaze and Perpetual Black Second (yeah stuff off Nothing).

Yeah, aside from being a rediculously good drummer Tomas is quite the poet.

I like the way they twist the syllables around the music.

Sol Niger Within, though not a Meshuggah album, will have to be my favorite as far as lyrics goes.

I know some by heart, don't know why but some of the lyrics are stuck in my head
like rational gaze : "possessed, owned, controlled by the common sense infected rational gaze"
or from spasm : "spasmed rendered distortion, organic spiral, stretched and torn into a new creation, a wordless thing a thingless word, lightborn malformation"
