We guys could share are personal opinions on how it is done, our preferences of using these methods and what could work better for others as well.

For start you could start by mine.

Love that trippy, 'ugly' out-of-tune intro! :D
Listening on work through horrible laptop-speakers, (much like everyone else) but even through these speakers it sounds awesome! Can't wait to get home and take a listen through my headset.
What was your setup for this fine mix?

Here be my latest WIP! Lots of room for improvement on everything, but I'm slowly getting there :D

Well you know your basics right thats for sure. Pretty intense music drama inside it. Very non traditional type of mix and song. nice.

rohan daniel, I really like your mix. Drums sound like a good match for your sound, and I like the tone you've got for that drone-y ambient guitar. Listening on my monitors and the whole thing sounds pretty damn solid.

Kullerbytta yours is sort of hard to talk about because it's such an unconventional song. Most of it seemed fine for a mellow ambient-ish track, but the drums during the small bit near the end weren't very punchy in the kick and snare. Cool track though!

So here's my latest WIP if you guys wanna try dissecting it a bit. It's more of a punk/hardcore/metal meets classic rock sound. Here's a rundown of the gear if you're curious:

Drums: Superior Drummer 2.0 Avatar Kit
Guitar: Fender American Special telecaster straight into an Orange Rockerverb with an Orange 2x12 cab
Bass: Mexican made Fender Jazz through a GK mb-115 with an old MXR distortion+ in front.

AAH man you need vocals for this because this song is tight and could work for a background music as well. i love how the bass is sounding huge with the MXR in front of it.

Thanks dude! My dad found the MXR and gave it to me, and I actually hated how it sounded on my guitar. I tried it with my bass on a whim and it was amazing. I've really only done instrumental stuff in the past, but I'm planning on having a friend or two throw some vocals on this track and another one. I'll be sure to post it when it's done.

Really fat and heavy mix rohan! I love that tone and the song is good too.
Kuller, the only thing I would suggest is bringing down that bass track near the end and bringing up the snare during that part.

So here's a mix from yesterday-

Guitar- Agile Interceptor 828
Pickups- BKP Juggernaut 8 string

Amps- Engl blended with Line 6 Epic (Pod HD500x)

Drums- Toontrack Metal Machine with SD2.0

Your mix lacks depth IMO. Don't know how else to explain it honestly. Not enough in your face.

BRING OUT THE DYNAMICS OF THE DRUMS. guitars are great and sound great(specially when you got bkps). Drums man! everything sounds like "TAK 'n' DUM" on drums if you know what i mean.

Was that directed toward mine? If so, I made a couple changes.

Actually no. But like OP said, your guitar and bass sounds pretty damn good. Just work on the drums. I feel like the bass drum gets lost in the mix a little bit. You hear the clicky attack of the bass drum, but you can't really feel the oomph of it.

Thanks for the tips, man! I'll work on that :)

That song is really cool and the mix is sweet! (Y)
What I feel is missing is maybe some low end on the guitars? 60hz boost maybe?
Also, it sounds pretty scooped, a chunk of mids will probably fatten up the mix!

That sounds really good, man! Through my monitors it totally sounds like a professional mix, if not even better than some of the ones out there.

My untrained ears cannot find a flaw innit at least :D
Well done! Also, very catchy song and I think some nice vocals would really lift that song! :hbang:

Thanks so much dude, as a totally self taught player/producer that's about the best compliment I can get :)
