So some time in August, I hit the Guitars For Sale thread on a whim and saw a Parker Fly for sale. Ever since I've seen these beauties, I've been GASing for one pretty hard, especially the carved ones (none of this Nitefly nonsense). The guitar had a few chips in the paint along the edges but it was also a hardtail, so I couldn't say no.

Now I am the proud owner of a 1994 Parker Fly Series FD. According to Blue Book and my guitar tech (who had a physical Blue Book) these were some of the first Parkers to be made and the only year they came in hardtail. Unfortunately this was also the only year they had the annoying master volume knob that gets in the way and turns itself down but I can learn to live with that.

Now, what you've all been waiting for:

Everything shipped to me fine and in good condition, only problem was that the nut came off, but my tech glued it back and it's fine. Also there's a ton of buzzing coming from the master volume so I need to look into getting that replaced or fixed or whatnot. I'm just glad that everything turned out great was this guitar and it didn't have a crack near the bridge like the other one that was for sale. :ugh:

All in all I am loving this guitar. It's so ridiculously light but still sounds great and the Majik Blue colour is absolutely gorgeous if not hard to capture in a picture. The pickups are really nice and clear and the piezo system is pretty awesome. This is my first guitar with piezo pickups so I still need to get used to them and figure out good sounds for them.

Hopefully I can get something recorded soon and posted, but then again I also said that about my first build when I finished it and that was over 2 years ago. At least now I have better recording gear and a webcam, though.

Have fun and HNGD!

I also got recently a second hand Parker Fly (well, my is a Deluxe with floating bridge) and the nut fell off after three days  After asking to the Parker support basically I re-glued it myself, and now it's holding tight - but they told me that basically every 5 years it's possible that you have to re-glue it again ;)

Guitar is as old as me.

...looks better than me too, I can stand to lose a couple of pounds

Solid NGD man. If only Parker made their USA models left-handed, then I too can be rocking the 4-5 lb guitar.

Very nice.

If the location of the master volume really bugs you, what a lot of Parker owners do is pop the knob off and just push the whole pot into the cavity to keep it out of the way. Then it's not too hard to find a little plastic cap to fit the hole.

Otherwise, the buzzing probably means that the ribbon cable is bad, which is a common problem with the old Flys. If you can find a tech comfortable with Parker electronics, you can usually get it re-wired point to point (since you can't really replace the ribbon cable). But don't try to get a tech with no Parker experience to do the conversion.

Thanks guys!

Nice color! How do you adjust the pickup height?
2 of the pole pieces in each pickup are actually screwed into the body and you adjust them that way. A pickup swap is virtually impossible, though, but it isn't necessary.

My tech said that it most likely happened because the nut wasn't slotted for the thicker strings and the low E most likely pulled up on it when it was being tuned. Either way, it's a simple enough fix.

Parkers really are amazing. Prepare yourself when sitting down though...

Yeah, tell me about it. That upper horn digs right into my chest. :ugh:

My tech actually told me about a guy he did that for and it worked great. But yeah I'm going to have to ask him if he can work with the ribbon cable and fix the buzzing sometime.

pop the volume knob off, put a little rubber washer underneath it, and it makes the knob harder to turn, and you won't bump it as easily.

Same color as the Deluxe as I had for a bit. Parkers are the best and that one looks killer. HNGD!
