Basically I want a good chorus and delay, anything on top of that is a bonus. I just don't feel like buying two more separate pedals right now.

I already have a reverb and OD pedal.

Suggestions?

The G-Major doesn't have the best reviews, is it actually really good?

What about some of DigiTech multi-effects like the RP350?

A rack solution would be fine though.

no.

they suck tone in a major way.

and also introduce an audible latency from when you 'pluck' the note to when you hear it coming out of your amp.

They have a lot of effects in them, but they aren't very good for serious musicians.

I liked the RP 200 when i was 14 though.

But to put this into perspective, petrucci uses a G major to this day.

so i would say go with some stomp boxes or rack gear.

imo if you already have other pedals, just buy some good boss stompboxes and make yourself a pedalboard

It doesn't? I've never read anything bad about it. I used to have one, I sold it to CentaurPorn to use with his UL. Personally I think they sound fucking awesome, and they're transparent as hell.

Yeah I just took a quick peek at HC's review section, not that it can be completely trusted or anything haha.

So the G-Major is the rack multi-effects then?

No. THE rack multi effects would be the Axe FX

But for $400, you get one of the best budget processors out there. There is seriously very little tone suck. The knobs on them can be finicky, ie you pull off the ring, or the knob, but you can slap that shit back on. It might even be better on the newer ones. I actually was itching to try out the G-Major 2, but decided to say fuck it and keep the Axe for just effects when I got a new pre-amp.

The effects on it are great, and you can get them pretty cheap used. The noise gate works fairly well for a serial effects loop too. What are you planning to get once you unload the Pittbull?

Haha yeah I know man, I hope to get one next year. Hearing the AxeFX for the first time blew me away.

Sounds good, G-Major it is.

I'm getting a 6505+ and having FJA give it the works. I liked the base tone so any improvements to it are going to make me a [really] happy shredder.

Slap KT88's in that bitch

I don't see you being disappointed with the G-Major, but if you are, at least it's not a huge investment. Programming it was a bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy to set up some really nice patches. Bonus is that it has 2 relays on it, so that should be able to MIDI switch your 6505+ if you get the right cable.

I love my GT-10 for effects!
So many different chorus, delays, compressors, etc. it's crazy :D
Two noise gates at the same time too!
Never used a G-Major though, so I don't know how they compare

I used a GT-6 and A/B'ed it with my G-Major. The GT-6 was a major tone suck. I had a parallel effects loop so judging tone suck was easy. I dialed in dry patches on both effects processors, then turned the mix from 0% to 100%. The GT-6 was horrible. The G-Major, while noticeable, was actually damn near almost transparent.

The GT-6 was great when I was using it to generate all my tone, before I got into tubes, but once I did it basically became unusable.

Effects/models wise I don't doubt it. But I don't know how far they've come with their AD/DA conversions though.

Rofl that would be insane. Jerry said that through all the tubes he's tried he still thinks a good set of 6L6's sound the best though.

Yeah after looking around online I can get one pretty cheap, I'm really excited. It seems to have a ton of features and settings.
What do you think would be a good Midi footswitch? These looked pretty nice:

Buy Rocktron MIDI Mate MIDI Control Pedal | Footswitches | Musician's Friend

Buy Rolls MP128 MIDI Buddy Pedal | Sustain, Volume, Expression Pedals | Musician's Friend

Well, it depends on how high you want to go price wise and how many features you need

I'd probably snag a MIDI Mate because they can be had super cheap used as well. There's nothing you really need to control expression pedal wise on the G-Major so for now I wouldn't worry about it. I have a Ground Control Pro which is like $400, but I needed expression pedal inputs and a lot more programming capability. I'd like to snag a Liquid Foot Pro because of how you can program the expression pedal ports, but they're $900, which is a little much. I'd basically be paying $500 for the 1 extra feature I need, which is the ability to program the expression pedal port as either latching or momentary for the toe switch on my expression pedal.... I don't want it that bad

If you're just looking to switch from your clean sound to your rhythm and lead sounds, etc, I wouldn't bother with anything too fancy. I think you can find used MIDI Mates for like $50-75 if you find a steal on CL or something.

True, true.

Midi-mate it is, I'll definitely pick one up with the G-Major.

Thanks for helping out a Midiot.

No problem  I'm a total MIDI whore. I don't think I'll ever have another rig that isn't MIDI controlled.

I have no experience with the low end Digitech units but the GSP1101 does not suck tone and is just flat out awesome sure it is overkill for what the OP has asked for but owners of the higher end RP products think just as highly of those. If anyone is considering the AxeFX but thinking do I really need all of that, is it worth the money? You might want to also consider the GSP1101, it doesn't quite have everything the AFX does but it doesn't cost anywhere near as much, just don't buy one for the Harmonizer/pitch shifting cause it sucks for that

BTW I just want to point out that some people experience tone suck with certain equipment due to shitty cables, not all gear reacts to cheap cables the same way, I know I thought my GSP1101 suffered major tone suck until I swapped to my good cables and then it was transparent, my Engl on the other hand did not care what cables I used with it. I had been under the impression that the only cable that is important is the first but this is not always true, some gear needs low capacitance cables such as planet wave cables throughout.
