I want to buy a John Petrucci model 6 string guitar and I had my heart set on the JPXI but now that the JP12 is out I am torn between the two. My question would be which would fit my style of playing and tone preferences more?
My amps are a Mesa Boogie Mark IV, Mesa Boogie Roadster, a Marshall 6100LM and an ADA MP-1 3TM with the Mark IV being my main. They all go through a V30 loaded cab.
I am a rhythm conscious player and I know that the basswood in the JP12 would benefit my lead playing while the alder in the JPXI would have a tighter rhythm tone. So the question is, would the mahogany block and the maple top balance out the mushy/mid heavy tone of the basswood and still give me a good rhythm tone along with the better leads and warmer cleans that the basswood would provide over the alder? Or should I just get the JPXI?
