Scott Hull didn't play the solo on towering flesh. It was his guitar teacher who's name escapes me right now. Either way, that solo is sweet.

Burning the masses......ewwww.

It doesn't need any explanation, but I'll say something: Though I haven't been lucky enough to see them live when they did that 2005 reunion show, I'll always remember a concert by one of most famous Pink Floyd cover bands in Spain. When the guitar solo kicked in it's full glory... whoa, I just can't explain that feeling. I remember looking at other people's faces and watching their expressions, most of them had their eyes closed and a smile in their face, and it was a heavily touching moment.

Too many running through my head right now to narrow down but a lot of them involve David Gilmour.

Seize the Day. Synyster Gates (same as above), hearing this live, and listening to it on cd and remembering the night i went to see them with the only girl i was ever in love with.[/QUOTE]

I have never listened to synyster gates but I know who he is. I am not one to pick apart peoples opinions etc but really?

Did you really just fucking compare the two? Please say you are joking.

The entire song  My all-time favourite tune. There's everything in it.

overly technical, yet not mindless wankery (in my opinion)

7:10 yea, it's a very simple cadenze, just played fast, but gives me chills every time.

from ~1:50. just sounds crazy and fun :)

also most DT solos :D

This thread brings up the question (to me, at least) that I was discussing with my band a few months ago... what is a "guitar solo" and what's a... well, not really a solo but an (awesome) lead melody? "Comfortably numb" is a good example, I do agree that this part of the song is beyond awesome, but I wouldn't really call it a guitar solo.
Anyway, lots of great soli in here (Petrucci's slow soli are amazing, I'm not really that much into shredding).
I'd like to add

2:10 . I have no idea why, but when I bought this one and listened to it for the first time, it totally blew me away and I still absolutly love it.

It's 'cause it's Vogg playing.

One of my favorite solos is the end to Decapitated's Invisible Control. I LOVE how the rhythm guitar changes up back into that really aggressive riff while Vogg annihilates the fretboard, right after the intro bendy part. I know nothing about guitar solos and lead playing in general, and usually I hardly care about solos at all, but certain players do it right. Vogg is one of them.

But my favorite solo ever is the Angel of Death solo, bar none. Y'all know what I'm talking about, the mindfucking atonal tradeoff madness Slayer are infamous for.

All of the solos on Long Time by Boston are pretty incredible too. Sucks they couldn't top their self titled album.

This solo needs no introduction or explanation, it speaks for itself. (2:00)

There are better solos, but I can't think of them right now.

Other end of the scale to most of these solo's. John Scofield at his best, and even my MUM likes this solo! It tugs you one way then the next, it's dynamic, it's rich in harmony. Perfect! Plus the song is amazing, pure pocketfest!

Solo starts around 2:04, but stick around for a spine-tingly sax solo around 4:15
