To me, guitars have always been, and will always be akin to tools and objects. It's like naming a hammer or a chair. As such I've never understood the concept of naming them.

I had to name my Parker Fly after Spiderman just because it was too good not to  Therefore, if people ask me what kind of guitar it is, "Oh this is Peter, and he's a Parker" to which they don't normally get it unless they're as nerdy as me.

a place of settlement, activity, or residence.
Yep, I name them...it gives me a better bond with the guitars
I give them girl names:
- Shirley (Ibanez Jam 77fp)
- Magda (Ibanez Sa 270fm red)
- Jane (Ibanez S 7320)
- Sheryl (Agile T7)

I just realized that only my eletric have a name actually...the other instruments are just defined like: acoustic, classic, banjo and ukulele :D
It confirms what I said before, I have a bigger bond with named instruments

I named my guitars but have since forgotten their names. Last time i ran into one of my guitars it got really awkward "Hey.....you:scratch:". We haven't spoken since.

I find it really grating when people give inanimate objects names. Be they guitars, cars, whatever. Boats get away with it but only because of tradition.

What frustrates me even further is people referring to objects as "she". As in, "I bought a Strat, she plays beautifully". It nigh on makes me wretch I find it so preposterous.

When I was GAS-ing for a black Gibson Explorer I was going to name it the Trollhammer. Amon Amarth may or may not have been a factor. This never transpired.

All my guitar's have names mainly because it seem's proper, I spend far time with
them than any person and I certainly know their personality's far more
intimately than... is probably appropriate.
the Yamaha, my first guitar- Haruko
The Dimebag Washburn- Joy
The black Explorer- Carrie
The Schecter 7 string- Yggdrassil
Baltimore Bass- Alice
and last but not least the acoustic I named her Erica.

I don't name my guitars, but when I bought my RGR a few months ago, my cousin immediately named it Loretta, "because it looks like a Loretta".

I proceeded to name him Cunt, for precisely the same reason.

"That fucking guitar" normally suffices as a mass noun - even if it's not technically a mass noun it works for me

Where was your Yamaha made?
She might be Indonesian or Chinese.

I love naming my guitars. Some are named after characters from tv shows, the rest have women's names. I can't have known anyone with the name though - I don't want bad memories messing with my tonez :shred:

Everyone should have a guitar named Lucile, that's just a fact

I've found that the only names that stick are the ones that others give your gear. Otherwise, I don't really have a name for any of my guitars.

7, JEM and Fretless.

On account of one being a 7, one being a JEM, and one being a Fretless.

Yay.

You wouldn't happen to be Jaklyons from MX now, would you?
