Also it's still different strokes for different folks and it's not ONLY a matter of scale but also how the individual bass is built, what the player prefers and different strings can make a big difference as well. Playing technique also plays a role in how you'd want your strings to behave.
Just as an example, in my case I am totally fine with my 34" 5-string in A-standard tuning. With stainless steel wound hexcore strings that have slightly higher tension than usual in .045-.130 gauge they are not too floppy for me and the sound has all the clarity I want. I can totally see how someone else might want something different though.
