tldr at bottom.

Hey there guys, hoping someone can help me with my current situation. I struggle when it comes to advanced routing. I feel like I may have the necessary hardware, but open to buying something else if necessary.

So here's my dream goal: Record raw DI, while being able to monitor with gain while recording.
I bought an Eleven Rack (poor man's axefx) to use for tone, and it also removes latency from monitoring whilte recording. However, I am finding that Id rather be able to create my tone with software in the mixing/post recording process, so i'd like to get away from hard-recording the tone. However, I'd still like to use the 11r while recording as I don't want to have to deal with latency.

First, let me explain what hardware I have, I have found pictures of all the I/O for reference
Eleven Rack - http://imgur.com/AmxoNve
Interface: Scarlett 2i4 - http://imgur.com/R9uCvet
Mixer: Behringer Xenyx 1002 - http://imgur.com/JJe7tcJ
Monitors: Pair of HS80s - http://imgur.com/18teG81

The eleven rack actually has two outputs, and you can select what you want each output to be. I can set one output to be raw DI and another to go through the full chain, which is awesome! It almost works out, however the problem comes from the Scarlett. Since I need to plug both the raw di signal and the full chain into both the inputs on the interface, the interface monitors both at the same time..so Im hearing this weird half gain/half clean and it throws me off. There's unfortunately no where on the interface to only monitor specific inputs.

Any help would be appreciated.

tldr;
Want to record raw di, but monitor with gain. I attached pictures of the IO of all the hardware I have. howdoidoit

The Scarlett 2i4 doesn't come with Mix Control software does it? Did it come with any software at all? If not, you will need to adjust the monitoring volume of the dry signal in the 11R somehow; not even sure you can do this. If you had Mix Control, you could just mute the dry signal from monitoring. You may just have to live with it.

Unfortunately the 2i4 doesn't come with mix control software, and according to Focusrite, it doesn't support it.

As far as turning down the monitoring on the 11r, unfortunately the 11r is only sending a signal out and nothing more, so I can't really adjust anything.

Thanks for the reply.

What DAW are you using?
You should be able to output the DI signal to a bus while having the gain track output through your monitors.
Hope this helps.

Lol i had the same peoblem with the same gear aswell xD
So there are two ways to do this:

1. Dont do Input monitoring on the scarlett but set the pot all the way to playback.
Then monitor the distorted track in your daw and mute the di track. Easy.
But if you have latency issues like i had, you either need to fiddle with the scarlett settings so you dont have any latency issues anymore OR:

2. Get an interface with routing software^^ i got myself an M-Audio 1814 Firewire for 80$ and now i can rout everything as i want.
