the cutout in the first image was done with the circular selection tool lol, and I just randomly placed it just to get an idea of what it would look like, I may refine it a bit tonight when I'm off work.

I think number 2 is a good basis, it just needs to look less svelte. Try making it shorter or fatter, perhaps.
