I've been hooked for the past month straight on technical deathmetal - running out of shit to listen to LOL!

So far, I've been listening to these bands:

Arsis
Alarum
Atheist
Becoming The Archetype
Cynic
Capharnaum
Cephalic Carnage
Cryptopsy
Cynic
Death
Decapitated
The Faceless
Martyr
Misery Index
Neuraxis
Necrophagist
Origin
Psycroptic
Quo Vadis
Torn Within

Who'm I missing?

Hmm, a lot of that I'd call brutal death metal, but not necessarily technical death metal (hair-splitting, I know, but essential at times). Nonetheless, here are a few bands you might find appealing:

Coprofago
Pestilence (later, rent-a-jazz Cynic-worship period)
Decrepit Birth
Sleep Terror
Terminally Your Aborted Ghost
Devolved
Confessor (more like tech/doom actually, the first album had major King Diamond vocals but the one they put out recently has more Alice In Chains styled vox)

...and more when I think of them.

Nile does some pretty technical songs. Even if theyre noe mainly a technical DM band, they are my favorites. AotW is fucking awesome!

Try:

Unreal Overflows (tech death disc of the year for me)
Dim Mak ("Knives of Ice")
Arsis (melodeath, but pretty complex playing)
+1 on Ion Dissonance
The Shattering (complex, not too technical, but very good)
Illogicist
Sceptic ("Blind Existence" and "Pathetic Being" especially.)
Spawn of Possession

All I can think of right now. Give me some time...

You also might want to check out The Death Cafe, where a small group of us discuss many, many cool bands in this and related genres.

i would recommend the bands:
gorod
domination through impurity
malignancy (awesome 7 string player with more harmonics than you would ever know what to do with)

Yeah, they're pretty awesome...I'm watching them in two weeks, along with Cryptopsy...:hbang:

But DSS3, your list is almost the exact same as I would make mine, LOL. I just would add Gorguts "Obscura".

You have good taste in Metal...:metal:

The Absence - technical and melodic. Mighty fine !

Not a fan - dug 'em at first... really just overrated ATG ripoff's.

Spawn of Possession was somehow left out of my list, the rest have been looked into. :metal:

Added to list, as well

I've gotta lay down a few more guidelines for this - despite my list, I'd like to stay away from the guttural vocal'd stuff. I'm a fan of Nile, old CC, Origin, Necrophagist, etc... but I really enjoy the higher vocal'd stuff a bit more - Death, Cynic, Torn Within, Arsis, Alarum, etc.

Also, I CAN'T STAND breakdowns at all - combined with the really kind of boring riffs and horrid vocals, ruins Ion Dissonance for me.

I'll give you guys a bit of an update after I'm done iTunes shopping and letcha know what I've gotten into!

I like well done break downs, like in Misery Index. But bands like Despised Icon, I fucking LOVE their blasty parts, but they have the gayest break downs, so I hate the band, the first cd isn't too bad though.

I just can't stand any kind of chug chug chug pause smack china alot in 4/4 chug chchchchchchchug chug chug repeat type crap - I have a huge hatred for hardcore, stemmed from being a deathmetal kid in a hardcore town.

It's really quite close minded of me, but I just cannot get into it. It's overly simplistic and too easy to write, and only sounds remotely cool cause you can fight invisible ninja's to it.

That said, there's alot of stuff that's way over the top, too - I just realized why I put Beneath The Massacre back up on the shelf a while back.
