The difference in tension from 24.75" and 25.5" is minuscule.

By using a set just a tiny bit heavier (and a stock set at that) you can easily compensate for the less than 3% difference in scale.

Do they even think about the design aspects of these? Why would anyone ever put an output jack there on that V?
Flying Vs output jacks are always on top of the wing, which is one of the reasons I never bought one although I like the aestethics.
The day they put it inside the top wing like say Jackson RRs is the day I buy one.

Exactly. I've never gotten why anyone would complain about 24.75 when you can easily use bigger strings to compensate.

Fair enough. Then again, I also tune to drop-G, and 25.5 is borderline for that anyway.

Even at that tuning the change in tension is very small.

len 25.5"

A, .013" PL == 12.21#
E, .021" NW == 15.18#
C, .028" NW == 16.91#
G,, .036" NW == 15.51#
D,, .048" NW == 15.03#
G,,, .070" NW == 14.45#
total == 89.27#

len 24.75"

A, .013" PL == 11.5#
E, .021" NW == 14.3#
C, .028" NW == 15.93#
G,, .036" NW == 14.61#
D,, .048" NW == 14.16#
G,,, .070" NW == 13.61#
total == 84.1#

len 24.75"

A, .014" PL == 13.34#
E, .022" NW == 15.83#
C, .028" NW == 15.93#
G,, .038" NW == 16.14#
D,, .050" NW == 15.3#
G,,, .074" NW == 15.07#
total == 91.6#

No matter how high or low you tune, a <3% change in scale is not going to make a huge difference.

The thing that I get annoyed at is the 22 frets. Although I have been considering buying a 7 string Explorer more and more these days. They just look so damn sexy with 7 strings.

Can you guve a source for that chart? And is the difference as negligible between 25.5" and 27" or even 24.5" and 27"?

Because damn. If the difference isnt that much different Id deff be all over that explorer...

When I in my younger days played death metal, I used a Les Paul tuned down to A with a 11-52 set, it is not an extreme difference.

I usedto tune my flying V down to B standard and I was using like 13-64 and felt it couldve been tighter, on my 7 currently I use 10-52 with a low 66 on a 25" scale and I feel its too loose still. I only go down to Drop A at my lowest and my main guitar is a 25" scale with 10-52's and its perfect :noplease:

I actually really liked the 6 string Thunderhorse I tried at Guitar Center, but that scale is too short for a seven imo.

Source: String Guage and Tension Calculator - Version 0.1.4 - 26 apr 1998

The differece between 25.5" and 27" is going to be roughly 5.6% and from 24.75" to 27" is about 8.4%, so there will be a bigger difference as the percentage in change goes up.
