I'm the first person to say that basswood sucks, but it is a reissue of the original, which is... basswood.

I like basswood and Vai can have whatever he damn well pleases on his signature guitar.

One of my favorite tone-woods is poplar... Inexpensive? yes.. but it's tone surpasses many... Isn't that the point?
