Working on the mixes some more.. and wrote a new tune as well. I was going to do more on this song but Cubase keeps dropping audio and I am just frustrated as hell with it right now. So it doesn't even have a name yet and has some rough edges, I ride the open B a bit much in one part, but hey. I'll keep working on it.. in the mean time here it is. Hopefully it is dark, haunting, rhythmically interesting, and heavy
Switched my pitch shifted guitar for a bass VST on this one, worked on the guitar tone some more, and am still experimenting with the different Superior 2 kicks..

Very cool. I really like your tone on this, how exactly are you recording this? Also, the part at about 2:00 is fucking awesome.

this tone is a way better version of the tone on your last track you posted (There Were People...). good stuff sir! sounds like you found some better sounding frequencies w/ ur post eq. when i do an A/B comparison, i can really hear a difference (on the other track, when a/b'ing very quickly with this one, you can hear a more "tubey" frequency, and this one is cleaned up) was it post eq? or just a different micing position? the tone in this one sounds like it hits more on top of the mix and is more "centered," if that makes sense...

Thanks for the comments dudes :hbang:

I switched to a different EQ VST that enditol recommended, and it sounds awesome. Lets you switch between four different hardware EQ emulations with each band so it is easy to dial up exactly the right flavor for what you are looking for. All the boosts are basically the same.. both this and There Were People Here were impulse recorded. There is two different versions of TWPH tho, the one w/vocals is my Orange cab mic'd and the other one is the DI impulse tone.

Its in drop B on my six string SLSMG.. I tried it on a 7 yesterday and it doesn't work ahaha. The bass VST is pretty good.. they recorded a 5 string Musicman bass into an Ampeg stack with fingers, muted, picked, so on and you just program it like you would any MIDI instrument. On its own it sounds horrible but it blends with guitars really well.

This is all an impulse, I record the preamp from the FX loop send and then use a Mesa 4x12 impulse that is a part of the Recainet pack. Its a lot more convenient than micing my cab (silent!) and I seem to have an easier time getting it to sound good this way :D

awesome stuff man. i just listened to all your other tunes aswell and i really like the guitar tone you have there. what bass program are you using? you still using the axe fx aswell, or did it not stand the test of time against the invader?

Glad you like the tunes man :)
Its EW Hardcore Bass. I ditched my Axe FX for the time being, the Ultra was completely overkill for my uses and I really wanted a custom guitar.. so I sold it and put a deposit down on a Sherman. I only really got rid of it because it doesn't have an Invader model on it  I'm going to pick up a Standard as soon as one pops up for a good price used.

Hey, I was never good at explaining tone. But I just feel like the guitar is a little too "crisp"? Like a potato chip..anyways, nevermind that, I'm just listening to the song "There With People Here" and I did hear it some time ago, but man, this is clicking with me now. I love the part where the screaming / singing is held out like Gojira style..love it. I like how you stick to your style. This rocks too, but I'd love to hear more with the singing absolutely!

Hopefully we can record vox for this one next Sunday.. I'm glad you ended up liking There Were People Here, I'd prefer something that takes awhile to grow on somebody.. those songs seem to have more longevity IMO
I think we'll be going more Gojira-ish for the vocals on this one too, and not so much on he Korn side like the last one

Nice work man! Impressive. The tone and mix sound solid for what you're doing. What guitar are you playing on?

just updated the song... the top one is the same tune with some small drum tweaks and mic'd guitars instead of impulses. It turns out I was lazy on my DIs and am missing some, so there are a couple issues with the tune that need ironed out now.. listen to the end of the 2nd bar of the main riff and the end riff :(

but is the tone improved?

you know, i think your tone is better than ever here but in all honesty i find your songs quite boring. if you could work on anything, i'd say just make your writing more interesting. i understand that you plan to add vocals and that business, but i've always felt if the instrumental track can't stand on its own the vocals typically aren't going to totally redeem it.

again just trying to offer some constructive criticism. don't neg rep me for this folks.
