Didn't see a thread on this yet...
Wasn't sure where since it isn't standard or extended.

also, will anyone care?

Do I need to know who this guy is?

Youtube'd been trying to show me this video for a few days but I couldn't care less about Jacob Collier. Interesting guitar I guess but I don't think the market exists for it outside of him.

He's a musical savant who writes modern jazz essentially. He got popular doing reharmonized covers of a bunch of stuff and he sings like he is in the Rat Pack.

Famous guitar maker makes signature guitar for "star" solely to get visibility with Tik Tok generation.

There was once a time when luthiers made signature guitars for true innovators - Les Paul being the best example. Now it's product placement.

Since you're based in London, I'm assuming you're probably sick of hearing about the guy and can't stand him out of spite.

I think the concept is interesting and Jacob is very talented but I'm not a fan of anything of his I've heard yet.

Honestly, his "zany" Nickelodeon outfits are so off putting it's enough to not make me want to listen to him

It could be used as a purely shred stick, tune it to all 4ths. Not really digging the Bauhaus color theme I’m starting to see everywhere, though I do dig the solid color paint job. Just hard to justify a nearly $3k MII Strandberg anymore, especially a particularly niche one. He’s pretty popular though so I’m sure they’ll sell well for a while.

BOLD. I love the aesthetic, and would assume that they’re fully expecting this to be a niche-seller. I sure as hell won’t be a customer at that price, but a mild-multiscale 5 string would be a great platform for CGDAE noodling.
Nothing but respect for Collier as a musician, his fluency across multiple instruments is impressive, even though his output isn’t what I would call “my bag”.

they're making 55 of the 5-string, so they clearly don't expect it to be a big seller. Not sure if they're doing a bigger number of the 6. Jacob is literally incredible in most every way, but I can't say I actually listen to his music much. Very inspiring though and I assume he'll end up making great music eventually.

Love it or hate it...those Anodized knobs and Bridge are sweet.

Not familiar with those pickups, but they look to be Anodized as well. Anyone know anything about them?
They're Strandberg-branded Lace Alumitones. I know a builder that uses them and says they don't really sound like anything else. They're made primarily of aluminum so they're way lighter than most traditional pickups. Pretty cool modern design. Here's their website's description:

"This radical departure from pickup design is aluminum based, rather than copper. Result: less resistance, higher output coupled to a "current driven design" as opposed to conventional voltage based pickups.
The aluminum water jet cut exoskeleton is then matted to a micro winding using 90% less fine copper wire, a low impedance/high impedance pickup is then created.
Broadband response like our single coil version, but voiced for the classic mid range response humbucker tone. Installing two of these Alumitones on your guitar will save you 1/3lb of weigh and increase your guitars resonance!"

More solid color Strandbergs is a good thing.
They already offered this guitar in this colour before. It was the original Boden Metal neck through yellow, and Strandberg just took a string off. Then they discontinued it before releasing this one.

Yeah I respect that he's some kind of musical genius that people much more musically educated than me respect and enjoy, but his music hits my ears wrong every time I try. Sometimes it's just like... stop doing so much. Or in the words of Devin, "Shut up, we know you can play! Jesus!"

That changes literally none of the things I like about the guitar, and yet knowing it is deeply irritating.
