Shame, they really are a great pair of monitors, I still use them in my second room, even with a-7's in my other mixing room.

So I'm looking into upgrading my current studio monitors (Mackie MR5's, Gen 1).

I'm contemplating two set ups:

2 Yamaha HS50M monitors and 1 HS10W sub

or just 2 Yamaha HS80M monitors

I was told by a friend that usually 8" monitors are more "true to sound" than 5" monitors, but the room I write/record in is so small (about 15'x20') I'm afraid the 8" with the sub would be too much low end for the room.

So would it be a better idea to lighten up on the low end from the monitors and get 5" and include the sub, or just to use 8" by themselves?

Thanks!

Alex!

Get yourself some treatment and get the HS80's.
You don't need a sub, unless you're doing bass-heavy dance music.

HS80's are also less colored then the 50's.

There are a few threads on these monitors within the last couple days, check them out. I posted some informative shit in them.

EDIT : Nevermind, someone necro'd.
