Simon, you always have the classiest taste in brutal gear. This one might be one of my favorites out of your past few new guitars! I wanna see a pic with your 5153 and Omega cab.

"There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers"

But here is a stupid question :p

I love the white guitar but don't they always turn yellow/cream after a few years? Personally I find that afwul and I don't think I could get over that. That is basically the most important reason I would turn down a good, white guitar.

My biggest problem with ESP is their excessive use of ugly, outdated features like TOM bridges, Floyd roses (sorry, people...), and pickup rings (just direct mount the dang things).

These guitars have none of those flaws. So clean!

Theres nothing outdated about a TOM or Floyd Rose bridge. I've had numerous custom builds with more "modern" bridges like Hipshots, Schallers, and EverTunes, and I would take the Gotoh TOM bridge 100% of the time over it. I think TOM get a bad wrap from some of the cheaper variants out there or guitar builders who dont recess them properly.

And if you dont like Floyds, thats cool, but for anyone who wants a trem, there's still nothing better than an OFR or Lo pro Edge trem.

I sold the 5153 and replaced it with an Omega Iridium, but good call... this guitar needs to get in a shot with all that.

That can happen, but I've had white guitars in the past that didn't turn yellow. I think it may depend on the type of finish used. Also, this guitar is like 2 years old or so and apparently hung on a wall hanger at the ESP headquarters. So far it didn't yellow/cream out.

The Axe Palace also just got a used one back (and sold it immediately), so maybe Nick aka zimbloth can chime in about the state of the finish on that one.

^This.

TOMs are definitely not outdated, and it all depends on the build. For some guitars it feels better to me to have the bridge and picking position a little bit higher off the body, it feels like I can really 'dig in' while picking without slamming my hand into the body of the guitar. Those Gotoh TOMs are solid as hell too, the one on my NT7B is stellar.

This is the most absurd off-base thinking. TOM gets better pick attack, definition and tone than a flat mount. OFRs are just floating bridges if you don't like them don't get them and by far most of their models do not even have them. Pickup rings are superior to direct mount, there is no tone difference and you can actually adjust your pickup height and change pickups without it being a huge pain.

You know how les pauls are so popular for guitar tracking? TOM bridge and pickup rings.

1.I don't know if TOMs do all that you claim, but if it did I presume they would be more popular

2.Unlike with hardtail or floyd style bridges,I had to take time to readjust my picking hand because the TOM bridge does not take up as much space

3.If you're talking about Gibson Les Pauls,I thought they had tuning stability issues, which means bad for tracking...

When i was getting my ESP (which is the exact model of the black version featured in the pictures the OP posted) i was first offered the older TOM bridge version of the NT-7B. This was when they were just bringing out the Hipshot version. They told me about the new version and i tried it, and the Hipshot version had TONS more pick attack, like a night and day difference. I went with the Hipshot version without a second thought. It was just so much better.

I've no idea what the reputation is of the two bridges, but on these identically constructed guitars, using the same woods and same pickups, the Hipshot was massively superior in regards to pick attack.

^ Affirmative. I like both bridges, but a recessed TOM is fantastic. They're in both my KxK 7DCs, and they have exceptional tone all around. It's easily the most comfortable, unnoticeable bridge out there, when properly installed. That said, I've never liked them elevated for neck angles like on a Les Paul or similar. OFRs and Original Edge Trems rule, BTW.

Simon, that is one of the hottest and most killer ESPs I've ever seen. Gorgeous & flawless guitar! Such a cool story how you happened upon it. Congrats!

That would be from using non-UV stable finishes typically. Some can be attributed to maintenance/environment, but it's typically UV.

Though, that's mostly a thing of the past as most modern guitars use modern catalyzed or UV cured finishes. Unless of course they're going for the "vintage" thing.

Congrats on the cool guitars, the white looks great! That said, I like the black one more - just a preference thing. It sounds like ESP are great to work with, and I am glad they took care of you for your tour.

I just put an 85-7X in the bridge of my E-II Horizon NT-7B (which is alder) and I love the response. I don't tune as low as you, but I found that I really prefer the X preamp for the headroom too.

Thanks for sharing!

Cole
