Greetings Seven String! This is my first post and my first 8 string guitar.

I wanted an 8 string for a very long time and since I am an Official Floyd Rose user I really was infatuated with this guitar because there are no other luthiers that make one with these specs. I went to my local Guitar Center and they had a special on this particular B-Stock Schecter Hellraiser C-8 FR because there was a blemish by the OFR bridge. I couldn't beleive no one bought it! The salesman said it was there for a few months and I snatched it up because they dropped the price so low ($749.99 flat but without a case). I was hesitant because it seems there aren't many people who bought the guitar and there were barely any reviews on it.

I have read many posts on Seven String about the EMG 808 being muddy, and although there is a heavy bias against EMG's in general on this forum, I took a precaution so as not to be disappointed with my first ERG and bought a Seymour Duncan Blackout Bridge.

However, I ran into a problem: I accidentally put the pickup in upside down and I bent the 3-pin connector clip. :

( I am afraid that I broke the pickup and I do not want to attempt to reinstall it into the connector in case I break it.

Do you fellow ERG 8 string players think this guitar was a good buy?

Do you think I broke the 3-pin connector by bending them? Should I try to install the Blackout again? If it doesn't work or it snaps the 3-pins, is there a way to fix it?

Once again, hello to all!

You didn't break them, those pins are just for connection, so if they're bent, they still connect. It's still fine, but don't bend it too many times, because if you do the pins may really break off.

Can you tell if your OFR has a steel sustain block on it, or just zinc? I think mine is zinc but I'm not sure. I want to get a milled steel or brass one when they become available.

Do you fellow ERG 8 string players think this guitar was a good buy?

Awesome buy. :) The Schecter 8s I've played/owned have all been solid, and the 28" scale is the one serious thing I would have done to change them. I'm not a trem guy, but if you like Floyds, then that's a great addition, too. :yesway:

Man, that thing is nice! I'm not a big trem guy, but I love FR's anyways because you can block 'em up and still have the awesome fine tuners, which is what I'd do if I had this one. Happy NGD!

Pretty damn good price for a minor finish flaw like that. I'd say it was a pretty good deal, and you've got a nice guitar out of it. Congrats, and sorry I can't be of any help in regards to the pickup.

Wow! What a nice forum and friendly community this is! :)

Thank you so much for all of the replies and congratulations. I am so glad I found this place because not only is it a great resource but people are just generally nice.

You didn't break them, those pins are just for connection, so if they're bent, they still connect. It's still fine, but don't bend it too many times, because if you do the pins may really break off.

Thanks so much for reassuring me. I really thought I broke the new pickup I bought. Do you recommend anything else as far as installation? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I don't know. If you tell me how to check, I would gladly do it for you, but I think sevenstringj already has the answer :) .

A thread you might find useful: http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/extended-range-guitars/229325-8-string-floyd-rose-user-thread.html :yesway:

It's zinc. They're supposed to have brass and tungsten replacements available sometime next month.

Thanks for the link, very informative. I hope the OFR runs smoothly. Do you suggest or recommend I change the blocks? What would this modification do? Would it increase sustain?

Thank you sir. The 28" scale, the set neck, the active pickups, and most of all the OFR are the 4 reasons I really had my mind set on this guitar, and I got lucky I found one for $749. Unfortunately I didnt get a case, but with that price, its a no brainer buy.

That's some serious guitar porn right there, man. Awesome! :D

Thank you man.

Thank you as well my friend :)O

Congrats and hngd!

Thanks!

Yeah, the blemish is hardly noticeable and on top of that, you can't see it when you play because my hand covers that part. Thanks

That is a hell of a good buy, my good man. She's a beaut!

Thanks very much :)

So, once again, any suggestions for the Seymour Duncan Blackout Bridge connector? Do you guys think the Blackout Bridge is better than the 808? I couldnt find any comparisons.

Thank you so much everyone for the kind words and the tips :D

Have a great day Seven String :hbang:

Well, if you want to put it back in the correct way, gently take it out and pull the contact along with it, so you don't force it. Then put it back in again and screw it back in.

And without the context this would be a highly sexual advice.

Alright, well, thanks again, friend! :) I just hope the pins do not crack if I decide to try another pickup. Sounds great, though.

I asked in another thread why there aren't any threads or information on the Seymour Duncan Blackouts for the 8 string. It doesn't seem like many use it or have it except for those who got the Schecter Blackjack C-8.

Please chime in if there any Seymour Duncan Blackout 8 string owners out there, friends! I would love to know what your thoughts are on your experiences with the 8 string Blackouts :)

Thank you!

Sig-worthy material right here.

No help on the Blackout's question, but nice fiddle!! I already have a fixed bridge 8, so one with a trem would be nice. HNGD:hbang:

 That it would! Thank you YJGB !

Thank you!

Considering so many people dislike the 808, the Hellraiser C-8 FR being a brand new model, and the Blackjack being another high end Schecter that uses Seymour Duncan Blackout pickups, why would Schecter still use the 808 and not load the C-8 FR with Blackouts?

Are there any Blackjack ATX C-8 or SLS C-8 owners out here on Seven String?

Because 808 > Blackouts. :D Especially with the 18v mod. I actually bought a used set of BOs to try because of the hype, and put the 808s back in. I eventually got an 808x set, but in hindsight it wasn't necessary.
