Woah, so he died while performing? There is that saying about dying doing what you love.

Must be horrible for the fans that were in attendance and his fellow band mates in Ohm, including former Megadeath Guitarist, Chris Poland. I can't even imagine. R.I.P.

Didn't know that, that tempers the news slightly, though obviously it would have been a lot better if he had actually lived past middle age. That 87 year old bass playing lady that died quite painlessly during the encore went out the way I think many musicians would love to go out.

"Tell me this isn't true," Megadeth's frontman Dave Mustaine tweeted.
TELL ME THIS ISN'T TRUE! I woke at 4 AM to hear Nick Menza passed away on 5/21 playing his drums w/Ohm at the Baked Potato. #nickmenzarip

Tragic news. He was always one my favourite drummers purely for Rust In Peace alone. If the reports are he died on stage too.... awful....

2016 carries on taking the talented away.....

I'll admit I know had no idea he was even in OHM, I assumed they were still with Kofi Baker. So out of the loop  While I'm not glad he died, obviously, I'm glad the last project he associated with was OHM because it's just so fitting for someone of his caliber.
Super cool that two guys in Megadeth that never played in the same lineup would end up in the same band.
Just based on Rust in Peace alone, he left behind a hell of a legacy. RIP

my favorite drummer growing up, very sad.

dude was so vicious behind the drum set. The perfect combination of sheer power and finesse.

RIP.

Megadeth/Menza both at their peaks right here.

This song blew me away on the drums back in the day. Sure there are tons of guys doing this now, but damn....

He was the drummer of the best Megadeth era, after him Megadeth just became a (good) generic metal band... the guy had a lot of personality behind the drumkit. RIP.

Dave Mustaine is gettign a lot of sh1t on the tinterweb bout his comments on his and Nick's relationship and how he been calling him his best friend etc when thats apparently bullsh1t..... I dunno whether its true or not, was Dave, well classic Dave to Nick for a time or is this just rumour & interweb gossip?

Sorry I'm not meaning to derail the thread off the terrible news of Nicks death I just was wondering based on what I have been reading, what happened between them two

TBF Dave having a moment of silence for Nick last night mid concert was actually very touching from him and the crowd for respecting it

I'm sure Dave cared about the guy, but he's the king of putting his foot in his mouth with the things he says. I'm sure there was good reason for firing the guy, or at least it would seem that way, but I don't think there was much animosity left between the two in recent years.

The thing is, for as edgy as Dave can be, people need to stop giving him so much flack over the things he says in the media. Everyone knows how he is, I don't see why people continue to be surprised by his opinions that he probably has good reason for having, and more over, why people still eat it up years later.

Anyways. Nick was a great drummer. Rust in Peace will always be one of my favorite albums with him on it, but even his other work with the band was great. Cryptic Writings is still a favorite of mine as well as Countdown. Nick was definitely pushing the boundaries back then for a thrash metal drummer and his influence over many drummers today speaks more loudly than anything that Dave could say about him, or anyone's opinions on him.

^ I remember that Nick left Megadeth due to some knee problems and it was harder for him to tour. Not sure if there was other reasons he left the band. Mustaine had a lot of legal problems with Ellefson for a long time though, so yeah Mustaine was not the perfect band member to put it mildly.

The old Megadeth lineup, Menza+Friedman+Ellefson was just amazing!I was shocked when I read about Menza, just unbelievable at 51. Too sad!
