NutzKustoms KK Warlock... AKA "The Green Meanie"

Hello everybody!!

Just wanted to make a thread for the repaint / retrofit for my brother in laws (Ungodlystrings) Kerry King Warlock.

Hopefully most know the stock image... if not, google "Kerry King Warlock"... and there you go. That's what I started with.

Here is a "semi started / in progress" pic...

So far here is whats been ordered / going into the final product...

Black Warlock Bridge (instead of the stock chrome)
EMG 81 / 85 Active Pups
250K Volume / Tone pots
9V Battery Box
Gotoh Black Tuning Machines
"R" Logo instead of the crappy script one
Flourescent Green Color

I have gotten the body completely sanded down, ready for the primer and paint. Yes I know there is still sealer on it... not going to affect the final outcome as I sand in between each coat of prime / paint / clear. Will still have that "mirror" finish once im done...

The bottom right leg had a serious chip that ate into the wood that I had to fix... the new bevels came out nice!

its all ready to go... once the pups, batt box arrive I cant route / resize the necessary cavities.

Ive been able however to start on the headstock portion, just waiting for the "R" logo to come in so I can finally clear it and then install the new machines...

Its a work in progress... a simple makeover... but this will be rather "quick"... Ill keep you all updated!!

Quick update... Parts have been arriving (finally) and they include...

Bridge, EMG pickups and the battery box. Ill post pics tomorrow!

As promised... The pics...

"R" headstock logo inbound from the UK... Tuning machines being delivered today (or tomorrow)... And just waiting on the new knobs.

Routing within the next day or so... Pending work schedule

More progress today... Routed the battery box into the body.

First time doing it... Measured 10x and cut once!

My dremel bit was a bit worn, so it burned the wood a little... But it will be hidden either way. No harm no foul.

And the pics...

... Honestly it wasnt as bad or intensive as i originally thought. Juat have to be careful and deliberate with the cutting.

Now I can get onto paint! Lets see how green this thing will be!!

Another quick update...

Unfortunately havent been able to work on this over the weekend due to Military Duty... But i did manage to lay down a couple coats of primer.

Just gonna have it sit and harden so i will be able to give it a good sanding to really smooth it out.

Welp... Good Saturday Afternoon!!

Sorry for the lack of updates... paint takes FOREVER to dry and set between sanding's... But regardless... progress has been made.

The "R" logo finally came in yesterday... so that has now been placed on the HS and clear has finally been laid to finish that portion up...

I also tried to see how to darken the fretboard... I refuse to use the term "ebonize"

I will say the Minwax Express stain is absolutely WORTHLESS. Its a thick "paint" and just wiped off the FB without any changes. So we went with a liquid stain that will actually penetrate... here's the preliminary results...

...And on to the body....

Well, its been a tough road, lots of coats of paint, and quite a bit of sanding to get this thing super smooth for the clear stage. All in all just waiting for it to dry is the most tedious part. Here she is, pre clear stage!!

DISCLAIMER... I know it looks "splotchy"... it was freshly sprayed when these particular photos were taken... have to let it set up and fully dry to appreciate the brightness of this green!!
