Greetings, my fellow wood porn addicts!

I'm on the lovely island of Hawaii right now so I figured I should find a nice piece of koa to bring back with me. Initial searches yielded pieces with light to moderate curl and outrageous prices for pieces that were only big enough for one bookmatched top (~$160).

I kept my options open because I didn't want to pull the trigger on something that didn't really draw me in and it's a damn good thing I didn't! Yesterday, I went over to a place I had found that's pretty close to where I'm staying. Unfortunately, their curly koa had been picked through and everything else was waiting to be loaded into the kiln, meaning another 1.5 month wait or so until it's usable. However, the nice gentleman I spoke to sent me up the street to a competitor who graciously let us follow him over to his storehouse and started looking through pieces in the piles of wood he has.

Long story short, he managed to dig out a nice chunk of curly koa big enough for 2 thick guitar tops. He even took it back to his shop and planed one side and poured laquer thinner on it so I could really see the figuring! I had told him what I wanted to use it for and he gave me a damn good deal on the piece. I am eternally grateful!

tl;dr: Went to Hawaii and got a boner-ific piece of curly koa.

Enough talking- here's what you want: pics!

Needless to say this piece will be saved for something(s) very special! For now, it's going to stay in my private stock reserve collection. ;)

Thanks, everyone!

Needless to say I will need to get some experience with resawing before I touch this piece, but I want to be as comfortable as possible when I start working with this.
