Right been away a while so lets try this again....New thread Redux.

First off i spent sometime upgrading all the Plates/Ballscrews/Driver/Controler ect for my old desktop workbee CNC mid last year, it's all done now and is SUPER SOLID, but man it was a total nightmare/PITA while it was in progress,if it could have gone wrong it did! everything for missing/wrong parts being sent to misunderstanding/spec of part lenght/types and shipping/customs delays to stuff going missing in the post & a PC/PSU/SSD meltdown (also my 11 year old dog died in Nov last year which was the cherry on top of a shit year...) Also unknow to me my Bro put a VPN on the home router so my dad could get extra sports channels on his TV stick and SS won't load for me at all and kept saying my I.P. was band!

Anyhows enough of my moaning ;)

Pic of the Upgraded CNC.

Decided today to recut the RGT design i built last year but with a 2 piece Black Limba body

ABLVV85WkioXCYdfSH42V81NS_LhTBA2XS5uxH5mezg-1bz90oax8PS3t2RgNi76cQEVqDhbhtvDquru8X9O_BsiO5nOnfJlBtkyz-_rKkAulB2-q-yis9z2Yoswgun6dAgpWFC9bfBQ8ErA_ZBa4h2lOlPN=w674-h1199-s-no

The Ash one of these i cut last year got sprayed up in baby blue...but the paint i used will just not cure, so today that also went in the stripping bag & i'll try another brand once the weather improves (funny that it won't cure but it also doesn't seem to be coming off very well either!)

Good to be back

I found if you set the step over to 5% (thats 0.3mm!) you need zero sanding which was nice (bbq fluid wipe down, same as naptha but 1/10 the cost!)

Started to clean up this F Hat type 5 string neck thru bass i started a while ago, Flamed Beech top on an Ash back (it's also chambered)

Been offline with a few IRL issues....time to update this a little bit more

Cut some aluminium plates (dam i hate cutting ali..) for the CNC sp i could flip and lock the Z -Axis mount in place, doing so means that the carraige doesn't have to lift/hold the weight of the motor, also swapped out the spindle holder for something a LOT stronger with a larger holding area.

Hope to get back to building in the next few days, i have a headless 5 string design im looking forward to getting built.

Looking so good, man. I've been MIA for a long while too, so it's really nice to open up the luthier section to see your work. Maybe the bug will bite me again soon!

Machine looks great! I'm jealous

It was a total PITA and i wish id just bought the whole new "queen bee" kit but it's miles better than the old workbee frame, so much smoother and faster, i can run 8mm bits at 2400mm p m 1750rpm and it blows through pretty much anything!

More CNC stuff....

I decided to grab a refurb i5 Lenvo mini PC to use as a stand alone unit to drive the CNC controller, it was only £30 and works fantasicly with the touch screen and retro arcade controller, the windows 11 design PC i was using started to have a bizzare issue where part way through a cut it would just turn off the USB port and send the cutter into the job......not good when your bit is 30mm deep in a pocket.....tried loads of fixes for it but it still kept turing the port off Durning streaming POS OS

I did try Linux (about 6 varities over a week but in the end it's just way to much work to get it do do the same thing windows7 does with 25mins of setup) settled on Windows7 and UGS as a sender, i had been using Gsender but they stopped supporting windows7 and dont have full sypport for FluidNC runing on my ESP32 controller

Also managed to pick up a 8mm collet for my ERG11 spindle, i read eveywhere you shouldnt use 8mm bits in ERG11 but it's working great sofar, for roughing it's 25% faster than using 6mm bits, Great.

Onto the Faff...strange how the little things can take more time to do that the large slab cuts!, i'll be keeping the Zebra inserts but im in 2 minds on the cover so i'll make an idigbo one to see how that looks.

i think i'll be grain filling the idigbo with black tint on this one to make it pop a little.

These all look great, a 7 or 8 string with that bass body shape would be cool.
Humm i do have a bit of a hankering for another 8 string having sold my last one a few years back...might be worth a look at porting this design, thx :)

So been out the workshop for a few weeks as i got stuck doing some house renovation after a family members death (im that guy in the family that's "god with his hands & stuff...)

So after year of trying to track down a Barrington (esp ghost built) here in the UK without any luck i decided to do a inspired by build of one of their Supertele types

Body is a Beech slab i had laying around for about 5 years, good job i don't mind "heavy" guitars because this thing will end up being a boat anchor!

i think this one will get a Fuschia Pink Flip Flop spray job.....
