Playing only through pc

I'm looking for some type of multi effects processor that i can play through my pc directly since I don't have an amp. right now Ive been playing through a x-fi card, which I know isn't very good, so I'm looking for something better. Ive been looking at the boss GT-8 and the POD X3 Live since I like the foot pedals, but which one is best played just through a pc? Any other recommendations would be appreciated as well, oh an I play metal so good Hi gain is needed.

Yeah of course 99% of multi effects units have headphone jacks..
