Well, if you think about, guitar is really a left handed exercise, rock guitar anyway, demanding most of the dexterity of the left hand. So, if you're a lefty, start "right" as that's the hand that has to cope with the most... plus you don't limit the fuck out of your guitar selection.

I write, use a fork, pick/strum with my left hand
I shoot (gun on right shoulder, index of right hand on trigger), use a knife (my right arm is bigger and more precise), dexterity note playing with my right hand.

And I can jerk both hands, you've all been OWNED!!
