I just finished this demo last week. I'm not necessarily proud of the quality, but I do like it because I did it with either budget equipment or equipment that generally gets a lot of shit. And I did it at a pretty young age. I'm going to revisit it and add some 808 and more effects/harmonies/keys etc. when EP time comes though.

Hah! Now there's some grind, fucking brutal man. I know the mix shouldn't be all that important, but I strongly feel that the drums need some work still. I'd say the snare needs some more pop/compression, perhaps a low-cut on 200~300hz so it won't wash up.

Imo grind needs poppy snares with brutal high sustaining clangs. What are you using for drums?

Very nice though

thanks!
I'm using metal foundry for the drums, and you are correct in that they need some work. I've just not bothered giving it the time it needs to get better yet, I'd rather work on new stuff :)

Thanks very much for the tips though!

So many great posts. There are so many talents in this forum it's unreal...

I posted this in the POD HD forum so I might as well post this little clip here too. I've been teaching myself recording the past year and it's been real fun

Probably my best mix here:

NOT my song, I don't even like the song (or the vocal for that matter), but it's fun to mix due to how busy it is. I can't remember where I found it, I think someone just posted raw DIs and vocal tracks on a forum somewhere and I gave it a shot. Guitars are Softube Metal Amp Room, bass is Amplitube 3, drums are Superior 2.0 with Steven Slate samples mixed in (2 kicks and 4 snares layered together).

Honestly, it's a bit "unfocused", despite my attempts the snare doesn't quite cut through, but I don't think it's that bad considering I mix on "just" Shure SRH840s.

Im not so sure its my BEST but its my most recent for the Feared Mix Contest and i think its pretty solid overall

Best mix in this thread. Extremely professional sounding, nicely balanced and tight. Every instrument has its place and the vocals don't get lost despite being quite low-pitch.

I am not the biggest fan of the snare "crack" sound (a bit too "poppy" for me) and the lead guitar could stand out just slightly more, but that's nitpicking. I don't even like Feared but this production really brings out the best in the song.

Ok the first one is a bit of a joke, and they are not really great songs. But I think the mix's are pretty rad. Oh yeah, sorry, it ain't metal :D

EDIT: Guys, I see a lot of Soundcloud uploads (myself included) yet you have to understand that SC basically chops your bitrate in half. If you have lots of cymbals in a metal song and upload it, you'll notice high-end cracks. Also your low-end gets tainted. Dropbox is the answer if you want to eliminate this!
