Tried a search that turned nothing up.

I thought it could be fun if those who felt inclined could post and discuss their best mixes, i.e. the one flagship to represent your current mixing doctor-grade amazingness.

But please, try to post entire songs or at least a finished arrangement, no "It just needs a bass!" or "This is my latest djent patch, I think I finally have my tone!". This thread is not about patches or gear demos, it's about songs. :yesway: However, feel free to share what you think could've been done better. And don't post if you can't take criticism

I'd say this is mine. The guitars are a little too scooped and the kicks could've been less dynamic, otherwise I'm quite satisfied.

I agree with the guitars and the kick, but the rest of it is awesome! The vocals at first felt like they're a bit too upfront but then it just stopped bothering me. Great work.

This I'd say is the best I've got for now. The drums need quite a bit of work still, and I'll have to kick the clean singer in the ass to get him to record his parts, but otherwise it's perfectly listenable and ready.

Cool shit! I'm hearing a mix of Lamb of God and Opeth sort of, both vocally and instrumentally. Tasty! :yesway: I thought the bass was a little overpowering in the low mids, and the kick and toms sound a little "empty", like there's no resonance in them, just click. It's mostly noticeable in the clean parts really, where they don't have any distorted guitars to blend in with.

Overall I'd say it sounds fantastic!

Here is my best mix so far, some room for improvement in the kick and snare sound.
Working on making the guitars bite out of the mix a lot more.

Whatcha think?

I like the song! The clean vocals (which are excellent btw) seem a bit far back in the mix, I get a mental image of a backup singer while the growler guy jumps around in front of the stage  It's very apparent when the lead guitar/arpeggios come in, being much louder than the lead vocals. I think the vocals could also be compressed a little harder and maybe de-essed less, as it is now it's hard to hear the articulation. Could also be an EQ thing, they could definately be more sibilant and boosted around the 2-6k range somewhere.

Also, the vocal reverb sounds a little "bathroomy". Maybe you could skip it altogether and leave it to the delay. Also, there's a bit of pitch problems at places. The vocal performance itself is very good so it could easily be saved with a few minutes in melodyne, if you're up for that sort of thing.

I've not really change my mix so far for my new album but I think the chords I used in this track accentuate the guitar tone more than in my other mixes which is probably why this is my favourite. Also I got a decent bit of clean guitar in and some slap bass!

I could've done better, but I fell for the old wanting-to-release-before-satisfied trap.

Thank you so much! This is one of my more straightforward tunes but I'm loving it! I'm glad you like my vocals! I feel like I can get a much better, fuller sound out of all of the vocals on this track. I'm going to re track them all this week for sure! I definitely agree on the articulation, the vocals lack it in certain ways. The reverb is definitely not my favorite.. needs a lot of work. Definitely some pitch problems. I have studio one with melodyne in it, I have yet to even launch studio one yet though. I spend most of my time in Reaper.

Thank you for the very constructive tips! I really appreciate the help!

I think I'm pretty happy with the way the guitars and vocals are sitting in this mix. It still needs some work though, I think the kick sounds too plastic-ey and the snare could use some work.

Well, I'm no expert, but since insomnia isn't letting me sleep - thought I'd go thru this thread :)

JohnIce - yes, damn those guitars need mids :)

Sounds great

https://soundcloud.com/nellings6/drop Still tuning the drums a bit but Im getting the hang of things!

Needs a bunch of mids in there, sounds quite scooped. Bass?

Drums just seem to overcompress the mix and jump out too much. Deal with that and I thing that the guitars will naturally start biting more.

Sonically this is my best mix.

i like how the heavy part in the verse turned out. https://soundcloud.com/shehatesmytie/chasing-victory-v1-9

Very scooped. Bass?

Sounds great. I'd say the guitars need a pinch of low-mids, because they sound a bit "hollow" at spots. Especially the single guitar that kicks in at 0:22

Overall mix needs some mids and a biiiiiiiiiiiiit of a low pass on the drums.

Just... holy fuck nice...
Maybe a bit of highs to the whole mix, but that's just a matter of preference.

IMO My best mix, I haven't done anything since then unfortunately, just been super dry for full songs.

Drums jump out too much. Bass?

Volume balances seem off to me. Especially vocals against guitars.

Sounds to me like there is a huge hole in the upper-mid range of the whole mix. Either that or the guitars are just too low-mid heavy.

https://soundcloud.com/basshead1000/dreams-of-the-blind

Nothing compared to some of the others i've herd! but it has to be my best thus far.

There's good tone in there, but too much flabbiness and mud, probably caused by too much reverbs and compression. Drum's highs jump out a bit too much.

Can't really comment on a playthrough over the original song.

I haven't been doing any "serious" mixing for almost 2 years now, since I've been working on other areas of my life.

Thus far *this* is what I refer to one of my greatest accomplishments.

https://soundcloud.com/valserp/sets/set

Not really happy with the mud(caused by some reverb, that I seem to have went overboard with), nor the fact that at the time I didn't program drums with different velocities, but hey - the whole mix seems to get the musical point across very nicely, in my opinion.
