Hey, I'm looking for some new Progressive or Technical Metal bands to listen to. Any suggestions? I already know Periphery and Animals as Leaders for Progressive, and bands like The Faceless, Beyond Creation, and August Burns Red (more Metalcore than Tech, but whatever :p) for Technical Metal. I really like Technical Death Metal or metal with minimal amounts of clean vocals.

Thanks guys, Stay Metal. \m/

Merrow, Intervals, Ron Jarzombek, Blotted Science.

Haken and Scale the Summit aren't quite as metal but still very proggy and good

A big blend of Tech Deathy Proggy bands, forgive the random order

Anata,
Severed Saviour,
Martyr
Element (look for Aeons Past)
Psycroptic (tech death early, more tech/core later)
Viraemia (personal favourite)
Origin
Obscura
Defeated Sanity
Augury
Gorguts
Quo Vadis
Hour of Penance
Brain Drill (they do what they say on the box, basically)

Hopefully you won't find many of these to be generic, i think it's a good list to sift through. I'll second Spawn if Possession as well

+ what was already said above, and probably others I can't think of right now

Edit: throw in Decapitated and Fleshgod Apocalypse. They're not really as technical but I've heard people refer to them as technical death metal

Lykathea Aflame is pretty amazing. They get tagged technical prog death but I'm unsure if they're quite what you're looking for.. amazing nonetheless.

From the more common/modern side of things I prefer First Fragment, Gorod, and The Forsaken. If ABR makes on your list then those should be fine on the technical side of things as well even if they're not all on par with some of the wickest stuff mentioned in this thread.

I always get giddy around Tech Deth threads

@silverabyss: great list, although I would add Scepter of The Ancients for Psycroptic, Incurso for Spawn of Possession and also Noctambulant because it's absolute 7-string heaven

The Black Dahlia Murder haven't been mentioned yet. More on the melodeath side, but they're legends anyways. I'd recommend starting out with Nocturnal first.

A great mix of Death/Cynic/Pestilence/At The Gates/Opeth

I only have their most recent self titled album, but is is killer.

I understand Scepter is probably the more preferred album (Matthew Chalk and all that) but IMO you can't beat the riffing in Symbols
