TIL. So why it's all over very cheap guitars?

Because you can literally stick a branch in the ground to make poplars grow

Also, nobody runs it as one piece or bookmatch or anything, poplar guitars = multipiece bodies

At the scale purchased for mass production at the giant OEMs, not at all. Most is even bought from large tree farms partially owned by said OEMs.

Though, those OEMs will also happily charge more for a given species because they know consumers care a whole lot about it, and thus brands are in a position where they sort of have to give in to the pricing scheme.

That's how most things are. From materials, to hardware, to finishes, etc. It's all dictated by the OEMs, who thanks to significant back dealing and consolidation have an oversized amount of control on pricing.

Is it just me or does John Mayer make the SE Silver Sky look absolutely miniscule in comparison to him?? I never realized how large of a person he is...
