this is the second track i re-recorded from my old band
we wrote it 2007 and recorded it, but in way inferior quality.
since i have no contact to all of my old band mates i recorded the whole track by myself, usually the vocals are not growls but shouts, since i can't do that properly i just went for growls.

i appreciate every comment on the mix and the song itself :wavey:

The guitars are very undefined, but I think that has alot to do with the micing (there is alot of phase issues from what I can tell). The drums sound pretty good, as do the vocals.

i placed the mics with the help of a correlation-meter and it was around +0.4-0.8 and there was nothing buried when i listened to it mono.
suggestions to clear the guitars up? i record with 4 mics and bleed them differently.

I'm still terrible at recording, so I'm hesitant to even give my opinions still yet, so any advice I'd have wouldn't be legit.

With that said, the guitars sound like they're recorded through a tin can.

I don't know if you double tracked the guitars or not. If you did then most probably you didn't record the tracks tight enough and they seem to be phasing in and out (been there done that :( ). If not then something is going on with the mic placements. Also the guitars sound thin and weak and very demo like. I would have imagined you used a crappy Crate with a distortion pedal. I don't want to be harsh but I would never have guessed you used these kind of equipment to record the guitars :(.

thanks for all responses so far and for taking time to listen to the song!

@Edika no not at all man, i'm glad about every comment, so i can progress my skills.
so how can i avoid that phase issue? my correlation-meter told me that it's in the + area as i wrote before (single track of course)... playing untight doubles/layer results that the frequencies interfear with the tracks i played before which were in the + area?

edit: so i just read on some forums that it's not even the goal to be in the plus area but closer to "0" ... damn i am confused now !

Your phase correllation meter is reading frequency spread in a stereo setting, from what it sounds like. 0 should be "dead pan", 1 will be wide field. I would recommend getting your tone from one mic, then pulling in another to amplify what you like about the 1st mic's tone. I wouldn't recommend trying to do four mics, as it can be phase nightmares. Also, use your ears, not a graph. Sometimes phase can be very musical if done correctly, but it also has to sound good in the mix.

ok i tried to use just 2 mics because of the phase issue... i ended up with the e906 + at4040 which i bleed together in the mix... i made a quick mixdown. since i listened this clip to death for now i could use some feedback from you guys
this is not the last micing position i'll try, but i am always willing for some tips to improve the sound :)

That is a much better blend. I would say that there needs to be some post op-EQ, but they sound pretty good

i have to agree, i'll try different mic angles to get the most out of the sound.
