The volume is pretty close, but it used to be closer. On the original pickguard from my 750 it was right on top of the bridge pickup.

The selector, on the other hand, is in the absolute best spot, IMO. Right where you can get to it quickly, unlike some other guitars where it's on the other side of the pots. I wouldn't have it anywhere else, in fact I've sold guitars because of the 5-way switch being somewhere else.

that would get on my tits lol

the one on my jem is fine with me tbh.

I got used to it with that pickguard, picked up a newer RG and was surprised by the volume knob being that far away. Now that I have a "modern" placement pickguard on it, it's not a problem for me at all.

I would get a plug, ditch the tone, put the volume there, plug the hole, live without a tone. I've seen guys leave the knob off to get it outta the way.

That's on plus about pickguard mounted controls, you can just get another 'guard with stuff moved around.

IIRC the RG7620 had the knob further away than even recent RGs.

If your volume disapear time to time (I unerstand your thread in this way) so maybe you have problems with jack input.

have you thought about lower profile knob?
standard barrel knob are a bit too high and stand in the way when you play

i wanted to take out the tone knob too
but i still use it from time to time.......

i'm trying to find if there's some way to use a push pull
so that you have a volume pot when it's pushed in
and then you pull it out and " BAM "
volume to the max and a tone pot under your finger
:woohoo:

maybe tomorrow i could post some schematics if you think that would be useful
