It's never bothered me much. Weird. I must've grown accustomed to it over the years.

the only Vol knob placement that annoys me is the typical Strat Vol Knob. But RG's are good for me.It's perfect for fast adjustments ,and volume
swells

Never bothered me, but I don't move my hand up and and down much more than I absolutely need to.

it never bothered me on my jem and strat, but just on this ..odd

have you thought about lower profile knob?
standard barrel knob are a bit too high and stand in the way when you play

i wanted to take out the tone knob too
but i still use it from time to time.......

i'm trying to find if there's some way to use a push pull
so that you have a volume pot when it's pushed in
and then you pull it out and " BAM "
volume to the max and a tone pot under your finger
:woohoo:

maybe tomorrow i could post some schematics if you think that would be useful

its okay, profficient in electronics.

sorry for the poor photo mock up
but here it is:shred: :shred:

pay attention how you use your push pull:cool:

you must wire it so that when pushed down it's in volume state

it's not a difficult circuit

when is pushed down ( electronic content from here to end  )

the 500kohm resistor is floating and the cap is bypassed to ground
so that the only active component is the pot that behave as a
regular volume pot

when you pull it out
the 500kohm resistor takes the place of a cranked vol pot
( so that the pickup see the load of a full on vol pot )
and the cap takes its place under the " real pot "
so now you have a " virtual volume pot " to 10
and a tone knob ready to be tweaked

if you like to experiment
you could change the 500kohm resistor to 1meg
so that your pickup will be a bit brighter when you engage the "tone mode"
( to have more tone range )

P.S.

a bit of advice

when used in " volume mode " this kind of circuit
will create a brighter sound due to the fact that there's a volume pot
" without an actual tone pot" , so the pickup sees an higher impedance
thus resulting bright expecially in clean mode

if this is a problem for you i could try to work it around so that the sound is
rounder

hope that you like
( please tell me if there's anything wrong with the mod, even if i've double checked ! and sorry for the lousy paint work)

...i think its awful. the volume knob IS just to close on rgs; its just awkward and pretty annoying, if you dont notice how your tone is just dying away while playing :squint:

What if you want a quiet volume setting and a rolled-back-tone sound

it is not possible with my mod actually,
but lowering the volume and the tone at the same time maybe would be
too much? maybe i've done it with my strat but i don't remember
it to be so useful ( maybe just too mud )

however Back to topic

i agree that that volume knob is in the way, it's a matter of choice

if you don't need tone you can leave it out
if you like to tweak maybe a stecked pot?

dude, one of my biggest complaints, i'm used to a lp style of 4 knobs in a diamond shape, i hate how close the knob on ibbys are, i always start turning down the volume as i play

Sometimes I'll be playing guitar at band practice and then my sound will suddenly disappear and I'll realize that my picking hand had been accidentally gradually turning the volume down over the last 10 minutes until the volume had reached 0. It doesn't happen much anymore, though...

Actually I have had issues and still from time to time do with the volume knob placement, but i find that when you play, if you have any stops, it's good practice to train yourself to do lightening volume on/off manouveres where you effectively gate with the volume knob, helps when you end up in a situation where your nosie gate dies...

Plus, it means most of the time the volume is turned up :)
