I stumbled upon an ad on Kijiji probably back in August that was titled something along the lines of "IBANEZ 7 STRING FOR SALE!" I thought ah, this might be Japanese so I texted the guy blah blah blah. Turned out it was an RG7420. Problem was he was about 5 hours away. I knew a guy going to this city in the next few days so I got him to pick it up for me. This is how it started its life with me:

I sanded it down and had plan of staining it. The grain on it wasn't too bad. I stained it and wasn't a huge fan of the results, which was this:

Alot of you probably hate me right now for covering that up, but that pic does no justice to how shitty it actually looked in person. So I took 'er apart.

She took a tumble when the stain was drying. I thought the body would be fine if I left it out on the deck (which has a roof) but the wind was crazy crazy that night and I was not home. It took a fall but not too much damage was made thankfully. So I patched it up a bit.

I went to the hardware store to see what I could scoop up and came home with these 2 cans of paint (the pink is for another project, keep an eye out )

I took it out in the garage and laid down some papers down to put the guitar on.
Time to say my last goodbye to the brown stain. This picture is more true to how it really looked.

I decided to take the guitar over to my dads rental place tonight that he is currently renovating to do the rest. Alot better to work in. Here is how she turned out after 2 more coats.

I ran out of paint after these coats. It's been drying for a few hours there now. I'll probably go see how it looks tomorrow and see whether I need to buy more paint for it or not. I will update this thread with more pics of it dried etc. tomorrow probably!

Sorry for the shit pics. I used my iPhone 3GS and the camera+ app on the pictures that look good haha.

You leaving it as a rough finish or clearcoat it semi-smooth?

I'm just laving it rough. Here's how she ended up. Theres a few bumps on it in spots, but for a 2 day project and $170 +$10.98 I think it looks pretty slick.

One little oopsie by the jack. I thought I trimmed all the tape but theres now this little chunk of brown. No big deal really though. I'll probably just go over it with a permanent marker so its not contrasting with the blue so much and doesnt look so gross.

Looks pretty good for a two day affair. Hell, it took me 6 months to finish refinishing my RG7420. Congrats and good job!

Well they just sat in my room ready to be painted for the longest time and one day I decided I was just gonna do em. So I went to the hardware store and grabbed two different cans of paint. Both of which were basically exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the kind words guys.

Here's my other mod thread. I'm doing an RG7421. Bring sunglasses. Updates are coming there tonight.
