From the looks of it, a trove of account data from around 2017 or so found it's way onto the web somewhere and a scammer(s) has been using said data to use "parked",have been mostly dormant for years, accounts to pull some marketplace shenanigans.

So if you signed up before then, and haven't changed your password since then, you might want to consider doing so now.

Wise is awesome -- don't like a shady member make it seem like a shady payment system. With Wise you get a great rate with currency exchange, and you can store funds in multiple currencies, convert them when it's convenient or advantageous. For me it's less of a payment send/receive, and more of a temporary bank that eventually does a bank transfer to pay for some new gear from some yet-unknown-location outside of Japan.
