Always found it interesting how people described the Merrows as muffled or dark when the pickups they're based on (The Classics) are some of the brightest pickups I've tried lol

Although I can see why I guess, one of his favorite pickups is the Invader and he helped design the Nazgul and those pickups were indeed dark.

Also +1 on the Blackstar hate. They're the amps of all time that tried to Youtube Influencer themselves into reverence lol, also had to copy someone else's design,,, then again, that's guitar gear for you. Everyone's ripping off each other.

This is funnily accurate
To keep those tones warm and fuzzy.

I had a couple of Blackstars and I never could get a decent sound out of them. They have this muffled sound that's impossible to remedy.

Imho their clean sounding lines are cool and quite affordable in europe, but yeah, the higain stuff is somehow affected by that "record-like" sound, which is a mixture of compression/lack of air and ear fatiguing frequencies/ congested mids that may sound cool at home (in some cases), but in a band are totally worthless features.

Their HT MKIII stuff sounds worse than their MKII models

No clue why anyone would want once of those when an EVH Iconic is the same price and DSL100 is even cheaper

Those "custom" KMs are import models that go for around $2.3k and take 7+ months to be built.
Too much if you ask me. You can get a Hapas for almost the same price and same specs.

He's not doing anything with SD because he talks sht about them all the time. Actually he talks sht about brands, bands and musician all the time. Weird dude.

My gosh that is nice. I’d buy one but I’m not paying $5k for it.
It's not 5k since it's WMI made. Since I am not a frequent SSO poster and didn't know we don't buy guitars, I ordered one

I didn’t know that. Didn’t know you could order them now either. Where did you place order? Cultfx website?

Edit: yup on the website. I’m super tempted to order one now since it’s not $5k.

How is a signature guitar deal money wise? I'm not seeing KM being very active. Does he have a normal day job or does the Schecter deal maybe pay the bills?

I don't know, add me to the list of ppl wanting to know. His last album, he dedicated it to his brother who took his own life, so there is that.
I would LOVE to see a 2nd Conquering Dystopia w/ Jeff now he's not w/ Arch Enemy anymore, and it would be great if he/they could tour, or even just publish more content on YT.

He still does studio production and engineer work iirc.

Also checking recent stuff I wonder if he's getting a FMIC endorsement soon. He just got a bunch of stuff from Fender and EVH (Tonemaster, 5153 stack). So I guess he does something right lol

Depends on the company and on the level of the artist.

I think that he does some basic audio engineering stuff like reamping guitar tracks along with some demoing/testing for brands, which you obviously see plugged on his social media. But I don't think he is working R&D for a company anymore or focusing on being a "content creator" anymore.

He still does studio production and engineer work iirc.
Oddly enough, I have seen almost no releases with his name mentioned anywhere in the credits (technical side or otherwise), minus his own music and projects that he has been a part of. So I wonder who is hiring him nowadays.

Meanwhile, I saw that he publicly posted on social media a week or two ago that he couldn't figure out how to get Native Access to work, which is... well... very indicative of lacking a certain level of required professional know-how. It's a very, very simple download and authorization management software for sample libraries and plugins.

Mostly his own stuff as one would expect, but there are a few bands/artists listed here for his work if you check the "Misc. Staff" tab:

Definitely not enough to pay the bills , but metal archives is also very selective of what bands are allowed to be hosted on there.

There are industry tools/sites such as Muso.AI that compile the credits of artists, producers, engineers, etc. and can even compile their total number of streams across multiple streaming platforms. Merrow has next to nothing on that site, even when you combine the results from his name and all of his various bands over the years. Even if you double the number (on the assumption that there are simply "some credits missing"), it still isn't much. Regardless of whether he is with ASCAP, BMI, etc. for royalties, whether performer royalties or producer royalties, he definitely isn't seeing much money from music. Not enough to pay the bills. And we can therefore assume that he isn't doing enough audio engineering work to pay the bills either given the lack of credits.

He makes a chunk of money from Schecter using his name for branding what might potentially be the company's highest-selling signature model of all time when you factor in how many iterations it has had and how ubiquitously you see a Merrow signature model in a player's hands, in a store, online, etc. But at this point, I think it's safe to assume that he definitely has a day job.

The refusal of the douche-mods of Metal Archives to include FUCKING CONVERGE is an affront to all of humankind. Fuck that website and those dweebs.
