I'm looking for some black, death, doom, drone metal or dark ambient bands that reek of winter. Anything revolving around the forests and such would do me well.
Wolves in the Throne Room is keeping me company at the moment.

Please aid me in my quest, kind people.

I'm mr. dark ambient, so from that avenue, here's a couple albums i think you should really check out:

Northaunt - Shadows Over Barren Land
Thomas Koner - Permafrost
Necrophorus - Drifting In Motion

other frosty, wintery albums:
Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
Agalloch - The Mantle
Marissa Nadler - Ballads Of Living & Dying
Tenhi - anything, really

IMMORTAL.

Blut aus Nord - Ultima Thulee
I.C.E. (for laughs)
Nokturnal Mortum - Lunar Poetry

As far as ambient goes, old Mortiis, Burzum's ambient stuff, and Wongraven.

Thank you all very very very very much.
I've been a Gorgoroth, Katatonia, 1349, Xasthur, Dark Funeral and Darkthrone fan for awhile.
And a couple minutes ago I just found Darkspace, who I'm growing fond of.

I'm loving Virgin Black.
Northaunt, Thomas Koner and Tenhi are perfect for what I'm looking for. I couldn't find any Necrophorus. Drudkh is great, as is Agalloch. I couldn't find any Marissa Nadler off that album, being that I can't download music and have no money at the moment. But I enjoy what I've heard of her.

That's all I've had time to run through at the moment. I will be back later without a doubt.

Once again, a million thanks for the great tunes.

Not trying to step on toes, but i would say to almost always stay away from any metal (especially black metal) related ambient. It's almost always overly cheesy, no sense of depth, and flat out boring in my opinion. The only exceptions being the Aural Hypnox stuff (Dolorian related, not wintery though), the afformentioned Vinterriket, and Nothing (Agalloch related). Oh, and Nordvargr, if you can even call that metal related. I can't stand things like Burzum trying ambient, and something like Neptune Towers.

It's been said once before, but

Emperor

Especially In the Nightside Eclipse.

Although the music probably wasn't intended to be ambient, there's enough reverb to make it so.
