Seeking Guidance - 7 string - Tremolo - 25.5"

Problem: I seek guidance for my next aquisition;

In the jungle of very good 7 strings, i am understanding more my needs for what my guitars need to be composed of. My problem is finding a 7 string with tremolo and 25.5" scale that is appeling for the eye, and the wallet.

Specs prefered:
Price cap: 1500EURO
Playing style: Virtuoso, "Andy James and similar"
Scale: 25.5" (B standard player)
Bridge: Tremolo (Quality)
Body: S type, RG style, mahogony, Basswood or similar. Ligth is good. Must have ergonomic cutouts for forearm and belly.
Neck: Maple, Not written in stone.
Fretboard: Ebony, or hard like ebony.
Frets: Jumbo or larger
Fret composition: Nickel or SS
Tuners: Locking tuners
Pickups: Modern with good output.


I Have today 3 7's;
Schecter KM7 MKI, Jackson SLATTXMG3-7, Ibanez 927FBQMZ (Ibanez is the one i am keeping)

So, are there any guitars out there fitting the bill? I have my eye on Ibanez UV70P-BK.

Maybe an ESP E-II? 25.5", OFR, legit ebony, hits most of your specs pretty much. I think they put EMGs in these 7s though, in case it's an issue. Horizons also don't have a forearm cutout, but they have a carved top, I have an LTD Horizon and it's not much of an issue really. Not too sure what's the price in euros though, I think a bit more than 1500. Maybe get a second hand one or hunt for a sale, if it's an option?

Ibanez UV70P-BK

It has those Edge Zero II trems, not the Lo Pros. Seems pretty expensive for an Indo guitar overall.

Tbh, if you want quality trems, as in OFR or Lo Pro, you're stuck with Ibby Prestige (afaik they don't offer Lo Pro on lower models) or mostly with ESP E-II, and both are pricey new.

I'd definitely pass on the UV70. While not necessarily a terrible guitar. Its way over priced for what it offers. I'm going to use the classic sevenstring.org staple and say get a used prestige. You can get 1527 or 752 and is going to be much better quality and and cheaper too.

Somebody suggested a 7 string horizon that would good choice if you can find one . Plus already having an Ibanez, schecter, Jackson, the esp would add a little bit more variety.

Have to agree with others. The Ibanez RG7620-1527-752 fits the bill and they're all great imo. The first 2 are getting older so that might be something to watch. I have no first hand experience with ESP or EII but I read lots of praise for those.

Locking tuners and pickups are easy to change afterwards so personally I wouldn't let that hold you back. Bear in mind that tuners, half of the time, come in 6-packs...bastards!

Maybe those production Ormsby's? They ought to have something you'd want, at some point.

While not ebony, the angel Vivaldi charvel is immediately what comes to mind. 25.5, gotoh 7, either black and gold or like a greenish and gold. Reverse headstock. So sick.

Lots of great info for me to think about. Must admit, i am drawn towards Ibanez, migth just have cougth the Ibanez flew ..

the 752 sure looks apeeling, does it come in other than a Maple fretboard? i only saw a new store model.

The RG752 originally came with a rosewood fretboard, but I believe that model was discontinued around 2016 due to the changes with CITES regulations(?). It came in galaxy black and cobalt blue metallic. They also came in white with a rosewood fretboard, which I didn't remember.

Sure, if you can find one.. some markets are completely devoid of high-end production guitars

My RG 7420 is 26.5 as are my Jackson 7s. I have strung up 25.5" scale guitars tuned as a baritone and the B string was very flubby. If you decide to downtune to A, it would likely be VERY flubby. I would encourage you to try a few 7s with a 26.5" scale - it is not that difficult to adjust to.

Unless you changed the neck, pretty sure all 7420s are 25.5" scale length.

Of course, I have been wrong before, and I will be again, but, AFAIK, the first MIK/MIJ 7420s had 7620 necks, I know they did a later Indo run, but pretty sure they had the same specs.

To the OP, I love my 7620, and have had great playing 1527s too, hard to go wrong with those.

The 7420 was never 26.5” however ibanez did have an xl series where guitars were 27” scale

I've got a Jackson SL7, for this exact reason. I was looking for something with a 25.5 inch scale, a trem, passive pickups, ebony fretboard and a maple neck.
