A few years back I disfigured my RG1527 to fit EMGs to it. I since went back to my DiMarzios but thought the guitar forever tainted. This *could* steal me over to the Duncan camp and I'd be a sad panda if at least DiMarzio didn't join you in this venture.

Since I got an 8-string with EMGs stock, I'm an active convert. Here's hoping for a few more active options, particularly in the medium gain area. 
I talked to Dimarzio about it. Whoever responded said that they saw no benefit to neodymium. Which tells me that anyone making decisions there is too old to hear high frequencies.

More seven string single coils would be great in my opinion.
It would be cool to see things like the Hot Rails, Cool Rails, Lil Screamin' Demon, JB-JR etc.

I say why not just have pickups with quick connect coils?
i have a buncha SD's around and i wanna try some hybriding or mag swaps but i dont wanna destroy the pickup due to human error.
