<span style="colorrange;font-weight:bold;">Who are your biggest musical influences?</span>
Tool and Meshuggah in general have been extremely important bands to me since the early nineties. Vocally, Tim Williams ( V.O.D, Bloodsimple ) Layne Stayley, Maynard Keenan and Chino Moreno are pretty high up on the list. Ken Andrews and Devin Townsend's music is an absolute gift from the gods.
<span style="colorrange;font-weight:bold;"> For those who haven't yet heard your song, describe "Chrysalis" in seven words or less:</span>
Start, quiet, loud, quiet, loud, Stop.
<span style="colorrange;font-weight:bold;">What was the writing process like for "Chrysalis"?</span>
A bit of a melting pot. I tend to be slightly overbearing as far as structuring/song direction goes but the ideas came from everyone and it was a pretty open floor of communication. The skeleton was written by Monk (New Way Home guitarist) about 6 years ago and we just bashed the full body out between the practice room and our home studios.
<span style="colorrange;font-weight:bold;">Did the song turn out as you'd envisioned it?</span>
In some ways it did, but other things took shape that were unexpected. Parts just gradually got connected. I think the best ingredient for songwriting is being able to tell when something isn't working or if something is missing and to talk openly about how to resolve the problem. Often you end up places you never thought you'd find yourself in and that can be really rewarding.
